Robert Harding World Imagery, the travel photography specialist has forged partnerships with many specialist collections to add a wider, more diverse offering to its already established world image collection.

Sergio Pitamitz / Robert Harding World Imagery

National Geographic, Tao, Godong and Last Refuge are just some of the numerous collections being added to the website to increase the total offering of travel related imagery. In line with the addition of over 250,000 images the company has re-launched the website making it easier and faster for clients to search, organise and download their image selections.

Fantastic new website features such as the Lightbox Tools allow customers to rearrange their selections quickly and easily with a simple drag and drop function and the new BIG IMAGES option for displaying search results and lightboxes help picture researchers see a full screen of preview size images showing the amazing quality found on the Robert Harding website.

"The policy these days from the principal distributors of stock seems to be more is better and while we have always preferred to adopt a quality rather than quantity approach we have found that by carefully selecting our partners we have been able to add quantity without compromising the quality we are synonymous with..." says Fraser Hall, Senior Content Editor.

Over the next 12 months Robert Harding will continue to add more niche collections that compliment its world imagery offering and would welcome enquiries from both individual photographers and established libraries to contact the company with view to representation on the website and/or through its channel of international distribution partners.

Founder and Managing Director Robert Harding added, "We have seen a 20% increase in our web traffic over the past 6 months with customers spending longer on the site than ever before which demonstrates they are finding more images relevant to their searches and ultimately taking the time to select and download the high res files. The feedback we are getting is that they are really enjoying the user experience on the new website which of course then makes me very happy".

Robert Harding World Imagery was founded by Robert Harding in 1972 and is the UKs leading specialist in travel, tourism, cultural and related subjects.

Wix Free Website Builder Launches New Partnership Program

February 25, 2010 (MMD Newswire) -- is a New-York based start up that was first launched back in 2005.Since then the company has been growing steadily and its product has been gaining popularity, particularly in the North American region, where hundreds of new Flash business websites are being designed with Wix on a daily basis.

The ingeniousness of this start up stems from its free website builder which allows people with zero technical and/or design experience to create a Flash website from scratch. While the website provides free Flash templates that can be worked on, the websites are not template based and each site is an original creation. Because Flash is such a visual language, some of the most popular niches include art and photography websites and portfolios in addition to small businesses and non-profit organizations.

As the next step in its growth and development, Wix is expanding the opportunities to join the company as part of the community. This includes its web designer directory which connects between professional web designers and clients who don't wish to manage this aspect of the creative process and wish to create a Flash website with Wix. The next step in its community aspirations involves this new partnership program which invites webmasters and web publishers of every kind to join and enjoy the company's success. By entering the affiliate program, the web publisher will gain access to various types of promotional materials, including banners and marketing emails. These materials will be used in order to advertize and promote Wix and send traffic to the website. Wix will be paying a commission to each affiliate for traffic that is converted into a premium user, regardless of the time it takes for this conversion to take place. free v plans to continue evolving as a community for web designers and web builders around the world, with surprising success in the face of tough competitors in this fast growing market. The start-up was established in 2005 and has its headquarters in NY and offices in Tel-Aviv. It is backed by Mangrove Capital Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners.

The Search Is Over For Serious Image Seekers

PACA pacaSearch™ Advances Search Results For Photo Buyers

Picture Archive Council of America (PACA) is about to make a huge impact on the way image buyers utilize the Internet to purchase licensed images. While PACA will never be confused with Google, its proprietary search tool will provide the stock photography industry with a much-needed digital solution. PACA’s pacaSearch™ is a free, Web-based stock image mega meta-search engine designed to greatly enhance the online image buying experience. pacaSearch, currently in Beta, is set to launch on February 25, 2010.

Developed and supported by PACA, pacaSearch serves to bridge the void left by existing image search engines. Unlike Google, pacaSearch provides buyers with results for only licensable imagery. Other existing search engines serve up both commercial and personal images in their photo search results. This can be especially problematic for professional image buyers.

“Learning about the functionality and usefulness of the PACA enhanced directory put a big smile on my face,” Lee Horton, Multimedia Editor, K12 Inc. said. “As a photo editor and art buyer I search multiple sites daily. This tool puts more control in my hands. With the launch of pacaSearch I can successfully and accurately find imagery in less time, with less hassle, while having more agency resources at my fingertips.”

Here is how it works in a nutshell. A buyer submits a term into pacaSearch to locate a library of images to explore. Almost instantly pacaSearch returns an index ranking of member libraries by both relevancy and most matches providing the searcher with multiple perspectives. Clicking on any of the libraries takes the user directly to the relevant imagery.

pacaSearch allows buyers to rapidly sample choices from multiple collections. They will relish the vast improvements pacaSearch provides over any existing image-based search engines. For example, searching by concept (a common weakness of image-based search engines).

pacaSearch is a powerful new tool for highly focused research across a wide range of excellent stock photo agencies

stated Judy and Roger Feldman of Feldman & Associates.

pacaSearch helps members achieve broader online distribution of their image libraries at near zero cost. pacaSearch also facilitates the creation of highly coveted direct personal relationships between buyers and member agencies. Conversely, buyers will be constantly exposed to previously unknown sources of highly relevant content from among PACA’s globally diverse group of trusted professional image collections. PACA members will be provided access to traffic reports that include statistics detailing the number of searches, most frequent terms, and terms with no search results.

Keeping with PACA’s Mission Statement, pacaSearch does not collect a fee, bounty or royalty of any kind. The purpose of this powerful search technology is to provide the entire marketplace with a solution as dynamic as the collections available and with the convenience of a personal assistant. “PACA took on this project as a means to expose their members’ archives to a broader marketplace. PACA is working to be an advocate for our members commercially as well as with industry standards and issues,” noted PACA President, Maria Kessler.
About PACA

PACA, the Picture Archive Council of America, is the trade organization in North America that represents the vital interests of stock archives of every size, from individual photographers to large corporations, who license images for commercial reproduction. Founded in 1951, its membership includes over 100 companies in North America and over 50 international members.

Through advocacy, education and communication, PACA strives to foster and protect the interests of the picture archive community. Accordingly, we work to develop useful business standards and promote ethical business practices; actively advocate copyright protection; collect and disseminate timely information; and take an active role in the picture community by building relationships with organizations from related industries.

Apple Releases Aperture 3

New Features Include Faces, Places & Brushes

CUPERTINO, California—February 9, 2010—Apple® today introduced Aperture™ 3, the next major release of its powerful photo editing and management software, with over 200 new features including Faces, Places and Brushes. Building on the innovative Faces and Places features introduced in iPhoto® ’09, Aperture 3 makes it even easier and faster to organize large photo libraries. Aperture 3 introduces new tools to refine your photos including Brushes for painting image adjustments onto parts of your photo, and Adjustment Presets for applying professional photo effects with just one click. Stunning new slideshows let you share your work by weaving together photos, audio, text and HD video.

“Millions of people love using iPhoto to organize, edit and share their digital photos,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Aperture 3 is designed for both professionals who edit and manage massive libraries of photos and iPhoto users who want to take their photos further with easy-to-use tools such as Brushes and Adjustment Presets.”

“Aperture 3 gets it right,” said National Geographic photographer, Jim Richardson. “The image editing tools are exactly what I have been asking for, they’re so easy to use and give me a level of control that I never even thought possible.”

“I chose Aperture because it was the most powerful archiving application around, but it’s now an unbelievable imaging tool as well,” said Bill Frakes, Sports Illustrated staff photographer. “I am beyond impressed with the massive changes made in Aperture 3.”

Aperture 3 allows you to organize large photo libraries with even more flexibility using Projects and the new Faces and Places. Faces uses face detection and recognition to find and organize your photos by the people in them. You can view faces across your entire photo library or view just the faces that appear in selected projects. In a new view that speeds up the organization process, Aperture 3 displays faces that have been detected but haven’t yet been named. Places lets you explore your photos based on where they were taken, and like in iPhoto, Places automatically reverse geocodes GPS data into user-friendly locations. In Aperture 3, you can assign locations by dragging-and-dropping photos onto a map or by using location information from GPS enabled cameras, tracking devices or your iPhone® photos.

The new Brushes feature allows you to add professional touches to your photos by simply painting effects onto the image. Aperture 3 includes 15 Quick Brushes that perform the most popular tasks like Dodge, Burn, Polarize and Blur, without the complexity of layers or masks. Brushes can automatically detect edges in your images to let you apply or remove effects exactly where you want them. Aperture 3 includes dozens of Adjustment Presets that apply a specific style or look to the entire image with just a click. You can create your own custom presets or explore the techniques of other photographers by importing theirs.

Aperture 3 makes it easy to share your work with stunning slideshows that weave together photos, audio, text and HD video. You can select one of six Apple designed themes or choose your own transitions, background, borders and titles, and even add your own soundtrack. You can export your slideshows directly to iTunes® to take with you on your iPhone or iPod touch®. You can also share photographs as beautiful prints, create custom-designed hardcover books and publish to online photo sharing sites like Facebook and Flickr, right from Aperture 3.

Pricing & Availability
Aperture 3 is available through the Apple Store® (, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) and existing Aperture users can upgrade for a suggested retail price of $99 (US). Sigma Corporation announces five new lenses, three new cameras at PMA 2010

Company also highlights new “F” Low Dispersion lens glass used in three of those lenses

Ronkonkoma, NY, Feb. 23, 2010 – Sigma Corporation of America (, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, announced five new lenses and three new cameras, as well as its use of a new “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) lens glass, at this year’s PMA 2010 International Convention in Anaheim, Calif.

During the event, which took place between Feb. 21 and 23, Sigma Corporation of America unveiled the new 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM, 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM, APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM, APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM, 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM, the DP1x and DP2 compact cameras and the SD15 digital SLR camera. Exact availability dates and pricing information are pending. All of the lenses will available for purchase this spring, and will be available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax mounts.

In addition to the new lineup of products, Sigma is pleased to announce the incorporation of its new FLD glass, which has a performance equal to fluorite glass, in three of its new high performance lenses. Four elements have been included in Sigma’s 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM and two elements have been included in both the APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM and the 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM.

8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM

The Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM is the first ultra-wide zoom lens with a minimum focal length of 8mm, designed specifically for APS-C size image sensors. This lens has an equivalent angle of view of a 12-24mm lens when used on digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor. The wide-angle of view from 121.2 degrees* produces striking images with exaggerated perspective, enabling photographers to emphasize the subject. Four FLD glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass, compensate for color aberration. One hybrid aspherical lens and two glass mold elements give excellent correction for distortion and astigmatism. Incorporating an inner focusing system, the lens produces high-definition images throughout the entire zoom range. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting while superior peripheral brightness ensures high contrast images throughout the entire zoom range. This lens incorporates Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), ensuring quiet and high speed auto focus, as well as full-time manual focus capability. It has a minimum focusing distance of 9.4 inches throughout the entire zoom range, which allows photographers to emphasize the subject by creating exaggerated perspectives. This lens has a compact construction with an overall length of 4.2 inches and a maximum diameter of 2.9 inches.

*The angle of view varies depending on which camera the lens is mounted on.

17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM

The Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM is a large aperture standard zoom lens designed for digital SLR cameras. It incorporates Sigma’s efficient Optical Stabilization (OS) function and is a compact lens with an overall length of just 3.6 inches. This lens covers a focal length from 17mm wide angle and offers a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, making it ideal for many types of photography such as portraiture and landscapes. The OS function offers the use of shutter speeds approximately four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the viewfinder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement. Two FLD glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite glass, plus two glass mold and one hybrid aspherical lens, provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghost. This lens has superior peripheral brightness and provides sharp, high-contrast images even at the maximum apertures. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. Incorporating Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), the lens provides fast and quiet auto focus. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5. The rounded seven-blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images. The inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for use with the supplied petal-type lens hood and circular polarizing filters.

APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM

The Sigma APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM is a 10x high-zoom ratio, ultra telephoto zoom lens incorporating Sigma’s original Optical Stabilization (OS) function. This lens covers a wide range of focal lengths from 50mm to 500mm ultra telephoto. The OS function offers the use of shutter speeds approximately four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the view finder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement. Four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberration. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, and ensures high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. This lens has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1 (at the focal length of 200mm), making it ideal for close-up photography. This lens incorporates Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), ensuring quiet and high-speed auto focus, as well as full-time manual focus capability. The addition of the optional 1.4x EX DG or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters produce a 70-700mm F6.3-8 or a 100-1000mm F9-12.6 MF zoom lens, respectively. This lens is equipped with a petal-type hood to block out extraneous light. The filter size of this lens is φ95mm and the lens is supplied with a step-down ring enabling digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor to use a φ86mm filter.

APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM

The Sigma APO 70-200 F2.8 EX DG OS HSM is a large aperture, telephoto zoom lens that incorporates Sigma’s original Optical Stabilization (OS) function. The lens covers a medium telephoto range of focal lengths from 70mm to 200mm and has a large maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. The OS function offers the use of shutter speeds approximately four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. For Sony and Pentax mounts, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the view finder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement. Two FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass, and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberration. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range and an optimum optical power layout provides superior optical quality in all shooting ranges from close-up to infinity. Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens incorporates Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), ensuring a quiet and high-speed auto focus, as well as full-time manual focus capability. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 55.1 inches throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8. The rounded, nine-blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images. This lens is equipped with a petal-type hood. For digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, a dedicated hood adapter, which expands the length of the lens hood, is supplied.

85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM is a large aperture, medium telephoto lens optimized for use with digital SLR cameras features a focal length of 85mm, ensuring a natural perspective. The large aperture of F1.4 is especially ideal for portrait and low light photography. When used on digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, the lens effectively becomes a 127.5mm F1.4 lens. One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass element and one glass mold element give excellent correction for all types of aberrations and ensure superior optical performance. This lens is equipped with a rear focus system that minimizes fluctuation of aberration caused by focusing. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghost, even in backlight photography. Incorporating Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), this lens provides quiet and high-speed auto focus, as well as full-time manual focus capability. It features a minimum focusing distance of 33.5 inches and a maximum magnification 1:8.6. This lens has a round, nine-blade diaphragm, which creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images. This lens is supplied with a petal-type hood to block out extraneous light. For digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, a dedicated hood adapter, which expands the length of the lens hood, is supplied and enables the hood to block out extraneous light more effectively.

SD15 Digital SLR camera

The SD15 Digital SLR camera is the latest model in Sigma’s SD series. Powered by the 14-megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor, it can capture all primary RGB colors at each and every pixel location arranged in three layers. The new SD15 incorporates the “TRUE II” image processing engine, which processes the large amount of data from the 14 megapixel direct image sensor. It also provides high resolution power and reproduces high definition images with impressive three-dimensional detail, rich in gradation. The camera adopts the SD card and incorporates a highly visible 3.0 inch LCD monitor, 77-Segment AE sensor and Analog Front End (AFE). It provides high image quality and user friendly design. In addition, the durable shutter mechanism, which has a life of over 100,000 actuations, is ideal for the demands of digital photography.

Since October 2002, Sigma has introduced three digital SLR cameras, the SD9, SD10 and SD14. In March 2008, Sigma also introduced a high-end compact digital camera, the DP1, which uses the same large image sensor as featured in Sigma’s digital SLR cameras. The DP and SD series have established a strong following from a wide range of photographers, both amateur and professional. This new SD15 has been developed with the principle of producing superior image quality from the direct image sensor, as well as improved processing speed, operation and performance.

The Sigma DP1x compact digital camera incorporates a “TRUE II” image processing engine, as used in the Sigma DP2 and SD15 digital SLR. In March 2008, Sigma introduced a high-end compact digital camera with the concept of “a new compact digital camera featuring the same technology as an SLR.” The DP1 featured the same large image sensor as Sigma’s digital SLR cameras. The DP1 has established a strong following from a wide range of photographers, both amateur and professional. The Sigma DP2 was then launched in April 2009. After the launch of the DP2 camera, users could continue to enjoy the image quality of the DP1 for wide focal length photography and also take advantage of the DP2’s standard focal length. This new DP1x includes the “TRUE II” image processing engine, improving the image-processing time, as well as a new AF algorithm, providing high speed auto focusing. In addition, the user interface has been unified with the DP2 series by changing the Set Up Menu and adopting the Quick Set (QS) button. This provides photographers easier operation of the camera controls when the DP1x is used with the DP2 series.

Many dedicated accessories, such as the view finder VF-21, hood adapter HA-21 and electronic flash EF-140 DG are available for the DP cameras.

The Sigma DP2s compact digital camera features a 14-megapixel FOVEON X3® direct image sensor (2,652× 1,768× 3 layers), which is also used in the DP1x and the SD15. The Sigma DP2s is the successor to the DP2, which was introduced to market in April 2009 and incorporates a new AF algorithm, a Power Save Mode and a new rear design. The new AF algorithm provides high-speed auto focusing, ensuring convenient shooting. The Power Save Mode lowers the battery consumption. When this mode is enabled, a greater number of pictures can be taken with a single charge of the battery. The new rear design aids quick recognition of the controls. The addition of red markings has been used to enable easier operation of the cameras controls.

The latest RAW image processing software, “SIGMA Photo Pro 4.0,” is supplied with the DP2s and makes processing RAW images quick and easy. Version 4.0 has a superior image processing algorithm and improved compatibility with multi core CPUs. It provides better image processing speed and improved image quality. Incorporation of a new noise reduction algorithm reduces Chroma and Luminance noise when processing X3F files taken at ISO400 or more. It is possible to adjust the level of reduction for noise just by moving the slider in the control pallet. With the Macintosh version, functions such as JPEG conversion and batch white balance settings, which were previously incorporated into Windows versions, have been added. In addition, the print function and the display speed for the review window and thumbnails have also been improved.

“F” Low Dispersion (FLD) glass

“F” Low Dispersion (FLD) glass has been adopted and used in Sigma’s new, high-performance lenses. FLD glass is the highest level, low dispersion glass available with extremely high light transmission. With a performance equal to fluorite glass, this optical glass has a low refractive index and low dispersion compared to current optical glass. It also benefits from high anomalous dispersion. These characteristics offer excellent correction for residual chromatic aberration (secondary spectrum), which cannot be corrected by ordinary optical glass and ensures high-definition and high-contrast images. FLD glass offers superior optical performance, equal to fluorite, at an affordable price. The density of FLD glass is lower than traditional optical glass, ensuring a lighter construction of large aperture lenses.

FLD glass has been incorporated into three recently announced lenses. Four elements have been included in the Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM and two elements have been included in both the Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM and the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM. - Online Art Supplies

Photography Business: PicScout and PhotoShelter Partner to Assure That Every Photographer's Image Gets Its Credit

Partnership Gives Photographers Access to PicScout Technology; Provides a Clear Path to License PhotoShelter Images No Matter Where They Reside Online

NEW YORK, NY and SILICON VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - February 18, 2010) - PicScout, the worldwide standard for image credit, information, and commerce, and PhotoShelter, the leader in websites and online tools for serious photographers, today announced a partnership to automatically include PhotoShelter photographers' images in the PicScout ImageIRC™ (index, registry and connection platform). This partnership gives individual photographers access to the same powerful PicScout technology used by major image libraries worldwide, enabling them to connect with more image buyers and ensure critical metadata remains accessible to image users anywhere online.

Once included in PicScout's ImageIRC, PhotoShelter photographers' images will be identified by PicScout's ImageExchange™ add-on which populates an (i) icon on images wherever they are used online. This universally recognized (i) icon provides valuable information to image users while they're searching for new images to license or purchase, and in one click provides a direct connection back to the PhotoShelter photographer's e-commerce page to facilitate legitimate image sales. Kicking off the partnership will include initially enrolling eight million publicly available and priced PhotoShelter images in the PicScout ImageIRC, complete with identification and ownership information that allows for immediate transactions.

"Our partnership with PicScout gives our photographers a truly tangible way to increase image sales by allowing their images to be identified with PicScout's ImageExchange. When image users encounter one of our photographer's images online, whether it be via a search engine, at a content website, or wherever an image resides, the user will be provided a very obvious link directly back to the photographer's e-commerce enabled site on PhotoShelter," said PhotoShelter CEO Allen Murabayashi. "With PicScout, our photographers not only will enjoy a new channel for image buyers to discover and license their work, they also are assured that image ownership and attribution is clearly identified, which provides greater image protection and promotion. We are proud to be partnered with PicScout in this important endeavor that brings great value to our current and new photographers."

Serious photographers rely on PhotoShelter as their complete online solution to display, market, sell, and archive their photography. During the initial PicScout ImageIRC roll-out period, compensation to PicScout for image sales derived through the PicScout ImageExchange will be waived, and all PhotoShelter photographers' publicly searchable and priced images will be automatically enrolled. Following the initial trial period, financial terms will be announced and photographers will have the opportunity to continue or opt-out. During subsequent phases, PhotoShelter and PicScout will also expand services to include PicScout's ImageTracker product.

"Our partnership with PhotoShelter delivers on a promise we made to photographers everywhere to find solutions for them to participate in the PicScout ImageIRC. During the initial phase, we are delivering our value proposition for image promotion and transaction through the highly respected PhotoShelter platform. We bring strong support to photographers in their ongoing efforts to secure, identify and equip their images for transaction across the digital landscape," said PicScout CEO Offir Gutelzon. "PhotoShelter is a model for how images enrolled in the PicScout ImageIRC can benefit from PicScout's ImageExchange add-on, which connects image owners with image buyers through any service or platform."

The many millions of images now available through PicScout ImageIRC™ can be recognized by anyone equipped with the free PicScout ImageExchange™ browser add-on. Image buyers, whether they are creative pro, designers or communication workers using the ImageExchange™ browser add-on, will recognize PhotoShelter enrolled images every time they are online, whether conducting an image search, browsing at a particular site, or anywhere on the internet. Wherever they may appear, ImageIRC images are noted with the universal information symbol, a small encircled "i" icon. Clicking on the icon reveals a box of metadata where ownership is identified along with an option to click and transact for use. Owners and buyers are made aware of each other and connected at the point of encounter.

PhotoShelter has been educating photographers in the value of metadata and SEO to maximize the potential for use of their images, and now offers a suite of tools that help photographers spread their work online through SEO and social media. In 2009, 61% of image buyers surveyed by PhotoShelter claimed to use search engines in their efforts to find new photos and photographers.

Enrolled photographers are advised to promote ImageExchange among their customer bases, so potential buyers who have installed the free tool will always be able to recognize and transact for the photographer's work wherever they see it online.

Photographers and media are invited to join a webinar on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 3 PM EST, as PhotoShelter CEO Allen Murabayashi and PicScout CEO Offir Gutelzon will discuss the complete details of the new partnership, including rollout timing and future plans. Register here:

Alamy pays £8 million to contributors

Oxfordshire, UK 11 February 2010 - As the photography industry continues to feel the effects of the recession, Alamy is offering some good news with the announcement that it paid out over £8 million to its contributors in 2009.

Despite a tough trading year, the world’s largest online stock photography site was able to produce a healthy income for its image providers. Alamy pays 60 per cent of each sale to the photographer, one of the highest royalties in the industry. Of the £8 million, around £5 million went to individual photographers rather than picture agencies.

Head of Content, Alan Capel said: “Yes it’s a tough market but we’ve come through a tough year and are still turning a good profit. In these testing economic times for us all, we feel it’s even more important that we return the largest share of the sale to the creator of the image. This can in turn lead to the production of a steady supply of high quality imagery.”

Sony Introduces Waterproof Digital Still Camera with Performance And Style

Model Offers Outstanding Low-Light Performance, High Speed, Intelligent Sweep Panorama and More

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 17, 2010 – Leading the industry in innovation and design, Sony today unveiled two new Cyber-shot® digital still cameras (models DSC-TX5 and DSC-H55).

Slim enough to fit in your pocket or purse at less than an inch thin -- about the size of a deck of cards -- the TX5 is the world’s thinnest and smallest certified waterproof (up to 10 feet deep) digital still camera with Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization and touch operation. Additionally, the 10.2 megapixel model is Sony’s first digital still camera with an “Exmor R” CMOS sensor that is also certified to be freeze proof down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, shockproof up to about a 5-foot drop and dust proof.

“Only Sony can deliver a technology-packed, ultra slim, fashionable T-series camera that is also durable. Until now, you couldn’t have it all in one camera” said Kelly Davis, director of the Digital Imaging business at Sony Electronics. “It is so versatile because it’s a great camera for both indoor and outdoor usage. You can easily take it from a day at the beach with the kids to a cocktail party with friends. This camera is also great for activities such as snorkeling, snowboarding or boating.”

Waterproof, Freeze Proof, Shockproof and Dust Proof

Waterproof in up to 10 feet of water for an hour, the TX5 lets you take high-quality photos, including panoramic pictures, and 720p high definition videos of your friends, family or pets underwater. From the tropics to the top of the mountain, the camera is also freeze proof down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can take pictures of the kids sledding or snowboarding. Not only is it ready for cold weather, but the TX5 is durable enough to withstand an accidental drop from up to approximately 5 feet. Additionally, it is dust proof, so you can take it with you on a camping trip or a mountain bike ride.

The camera features an “Exmor R” sensor and offers 10fps continuous burst shooting for capturing action shots, so you can get great photos of the perfect moment such as when your kids are in mid air while jumping into the pool. Additionally, the sensor provides outstanding low-light performance so you can take high-quality photos even after the sun sets.

In one easy press-and-sweep motion, take panoramic photos of the underwater landscape or breathtaking views from the top of the mountain using the Intelligent Sweep Panorama™ feature. Another benefit of the “Exmor R” sensor, this innovative feature combines separate captures, detects faces and subject motion and intelligently adjusts the width while stitching the images together, resulting in natural looking panoramic photos.

Equipped with a foldable, 25 mm equivalent wide-angle 4x optical zoom Carl Zeiss® Vario Tessor® lens, the TX5 delivers outstanding sharpness and high-quality photos while helping to keep the camera compact. The camera also has a three-inch (measured diagonally) Clear Photo LCD Plus™ (230,400 pixel) wide touch screen display that functions—even underwater. You can focus on your subject, operate the menu and share photos and videos with a touch of the screen—wet or dry. Additionally, you can decorate your photos using the paint feature or scroll through images by simply sweeping your finger across the screen.

Shadows and Details Made Easy

In addition to making it easy to capture entire landscapes or tall buildings, the TX5 camera also helps to manage difficult lighting situations. The “Exmor R” CMOS sensor lets you take high-quality photos in low light without a flash. Additionally, the TX5 has a solution for backlight situations.

With in-camera multi-shot Backlight Correction High Dynamic Range (HDR), the camera combines highlight and shadow detail of two separate captures into one remarkably natural looking image—even without a tripod. HDR offers a solution for strong backlight situations which typically result in either dark shadows in the foreground or a washed out background. Sony’s “Exmor R” sensor and BIONZ® processor help to correct these issues.

Sony also is introducing the H55 model, which offers high zoom in a compact design. The H55 camera’s 10x optical zoom Sony G lens with 25mm wide-angle (equivalent) takes better shots from greater distances and of wider landscapes. With a 14.1 megapixel CCD sensor, this camera lets you take panoramic shots in one sweeping motion with Sweep Panorama™ mode. You can also frame and view photos on its three-inch (measured diagonally) Clear Photo™ LCD screen (230,400 pixels).

Featuring 720p movie recording, the H55 model offers Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization to help reduce blur in photos without compromising image quality. It also adds Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode, which lets you shoot smoother movie clips even if you are walking while shooting. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode allows a moveable lens element inside the camera to shift with greater range of motion—10 times the range of the Optical SteadyShot feature at wide end in standard mode—to compensate for camera shake.

The TX5 and H55 cameras share intelligent features including HD movie recording (1280 x 720 at 30p). Additionally, these cameras have a Self portrait timer that automatically takes the shot two seconds after one or two faces are detected, making hand held self-portraits easy. They also offer Smile Shutter™ technology to automatically capture smiles and iAUTO and Easy modes, which make it easy to get the best shot in nearly any lighting situation.

To give customers greater choice and enhance the overall customer experience, the TX5 and H55 cameras feature a memory card slot compatible with both Memory Stick® (PRO Duo™) and class-four and above SD/SDHC formats.

Pricing and Availability

The TX5 camera will be available in silver, black, pink, green, and red this April for about $350, and the H55 camera will be available in black and silver this April for about $250. Pre-sales begin in February.

The cameras and a range of accessories will be available online at, at Sony Style® retail stores (, at military base exchanges and at authorized dealers nationwide.
