Munich (GERMANY), 28th MAY 2009 (CEPIC) - PantherMedia, the biggest original German mid- and microstock agency with over one million royalty-free images, today announced its new microstock offering: besides reducing the prices for single images by more than 80%, images can now be purchased using the new credit-payment system or an image subscription plan.

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new 50-200mm F4-5.6 DC OS HSM. Compact, High Performance Telephoto Zoom Lens.

This compact high-performance telephoto zoom lens incorporates Sigma’s own Optical Stabilizer function. The lens incorporates SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in the front lens groups and is equipped with an inner focusing system to provide high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high-speed auto focus. For Sony and Pentax mounts the built-in OS System allows the photographer to see the stabilized image in the viewfinder and can be used as an alternative with cameras having built-in image stabilization. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high contrast images throughout the entire zoom range. ACDSee Pro 3 Fulfills Photographers’ Need for Speed, Flexibility and Value

VICTORIA, British Columbia – May 27, 2009 - ACD Systems International Inc. is accelerating photography workflow with the development of ACDSee™ Pro 3, a new version of its three-year-old software now available for public beta testing. Anticipated for full release in the fall, ACDSee Pro 3 retains the same fast and flexible features photographers rely upon for their creative work and incorporates an enhanced user experience that delivers a professional level of support at a tremendous value.

ACDSee Pro 3 is now open for beta testing by photographers all over the world. The company expects several thousand professionals to participate in the beta period and lend feedback in the development process, much like the 2,500 testers who helped shape the Pro 2 version. Beta downloads are available at www.acdseepro.com.

This new release from ACD Systems emphasizes four areas of activity – manage, view, process and online – that optimize photography workflow from start to finish in one application.

“Every new feature in ACDSee Pro 3 is geared around saving time and making a photographer’s workflow process customizable,” said Cam Carmichael, product manager for ACD Systems. “Beta test participants will see a uniquely flexible image processing mode that helps photographers streamline and speed up the work involved in perfecting and preparing their photos for publication.”

Introduced in early 2006, ACDSee Pro has historically focused on mode-based workflow, so this new update will be familiar to current ACDSee Pro users.

“Each mode is a continuation of the functions that ACDSee Pro customers have always utilized in their workflow,” said Carmichael. “The Pro 3 structure simply makes the features easier to find and ties together all the activities in a seamless fashion from start to finish, all in one application.”

Intuitive workflow
To help accelerate workflow, ACDSee Pro 3’s refined interface is built around the key steps of managing, viewing and processing images. Designed in consultation with an advisory board of existing users to ensure continuity, the enhanced interface makes it easier to stay oriented within the application as the user moves between modes.

Manage: Digital asset management
ACDSee Pro 3 provides photographers with the capability to manage digital assets to their own specifications using both folders and metadata. The manage mode speeds the process of browsing, cataloging, retrieving, and presenting collections with new, flexible time-saving tools. New additions to the robust sharing capabilities allow users to distribute their creative work effortlessly through SMTP-enabled e-mail applications such as Google™ Gmail and Yahoo!® Mail Plus, and publish images to their Web sites via a new FTP uploader.

As in previous versions of ACDSee Pro, ACDSee Pro 3 supports the management of more than 100 file types and will be frequently updated to support the latest RAW formats when new camera models are released.

View: Unparalleled image viewing
In view mode, images can be seen in full size at unparalleled speeds. Photographers can quickly scan through selected images with click advance or auto advance features, or flip between images using the new filmstrip window and remain oriented within a large group of files.

Process: Dynamic imaging processing
ACDSee Pro 3’s unique process mode integrates two highly prized capabilities – nondestructive image editing and precise pixel-level editing – into one seamless application. Users can take advantage of the new mode to dynamically adjust images of any format, from RAW files to TIFFs and JPEGs, and easily complete both global nondestructive adjustments and pixel-level editing on any image in one intuitive workflow. Unlike other programs that make users wait while changes apply, ACDSee Pro 3 allows users to see the outcome of their adjustments in real time.

“The new process mode is one of our most significant innovations, in terms of helping photographers save time, since we introduced our still-unmatched image viewing technology,” said Mark Franklin, president of ACD Systems. “ACDSee Pro 3 offers tremendous pro-level image management and editing capabilities at a great value.”

Online: Photo sharing with free storage
Photographers can easily store and share images online without leaving the application in ACDSee Pro 3’s new online mode, which connects users to a free 2 GB account on the ACDSee Online Web site. The online mode is a convenient way to create, store, share and manage albums and access images when away from the desktop computer. ACDSee Pro 3 image folders can quickly and easily be dragged and dropped, with metadata, directly on the secure, password-protected online storage space. ACDSee Online, which is powered by Amazon Web Services™, the same secure infrastructure that backs Amazon.com and its affiliated sites, offers a hierarchical folder tree structure so images can be easily organized.

Availability
ACDSee Pro 3 is in beta testing at www.acdseepro.com until its release. The full release of the product is anticipated in Fall 2009. At that time, ACDSee Pro 3 will be available for a free 30-day trial and for purchase at $169.99 (USD) by visiting www.acdsee.com. Registered owners of ACDSee Pro, Pro 2 and Pro 2.5 will be eligible for upgrade at $90 (USD).

ViewSonic® Enhances Digital Photo Viewing with TrueView Line of Digital Photo Frames

Company develops affordable and attractive visual displays for sharing family memories

WALNUT, Calif.--(Business Wire)--ViewSonic® Corp., a leading global provider of visual display products, today launched the new TrueView family of digital photo frames, including the 10.4” VFD1020, 8” VFD820 and 7” VFD720 for easy viewing of digital memories. The TrueView line is one of the first digital photo frame line ups to offer a full range of digital photo frames with 4:3 aspect ratio, the best format to display digital pictures with minimal distortion. This series offers high-quality, premium features at affordable prices for consumers to preserve and enjoy precious memories.

ViewSonic continues its tradition of commitment to quality with the new TrueView line which includes the VFD20 series of 10.4”, 8” and 7” ebony-framed displays with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the ideal format for showcasing digital images because it is the same ratio of many commercial digital cameras. The 4:3 aspect ratio ensures that the image is as clear and detailed as when the photo was originally taken. The frames also feature an 800x600 high-resolution LCD panel for crisp, clear picture quality. This is particularly unique for the 7” frame class since most frames this size on the market today do not offer such high resolution. The 10.4” model coming in June will offer 1024x768 resolution. The frames offer a generous 2GB internal memory built into each of these new TrueView VFD20 frames, allowing users to store thousands of photos directly on the frame. Consumers also have the option of transferring pictures from their digital camera because the frames are compatible with CF / MMC / MS memory card readers and also have a USB 2.0 port, allowing for quick and easy photo imports.

The VFD20 series serves multiple purposes as the frames feature calendar and clock functions, providing a stylish addition to any room in the house or in the office. They also have a slideshow feature that enables various display speeds and transition effects for a fun way to showcase photos. The products come with a remote control so users can easily find and access a specific image or group of pictures.

ViewSonic’s new digital photo frame line will be available in Q2 2009 at ESPs of $129.99 for the 10.4”, $89.99 for the 8” and $79.99 for the 7”.

In addition to the VFD20 series, ViewSonic also introduced the 7” VFA710w-10 and the 9” VFD920w-12, two ebony digital photo frames perfect for sharing memories within the home or as gifts for weddings, birthdays or graduation. These frames offer excellent picture quality at very affordable prices.

Review: Sony HX1

This is a great 2nd camera and light enough to never hesitate to have it with me. I can easily carry this skiing - the low light & 20x zoom will complement my DSLR.
This is Sony's new cybershot camera that comes close to being a DSLR. I've been using this now for a coupla weeks:

Highs:

  • low light capture is excellent - much better than my Sony A-100 DSLR - the camera takes 6 quick images then aveages them to come up with a very sharp image
  • video - very good - especially ability to zoom while shooting. definitely need a tripod, but results are being accepted at several microstock sites
  • 20X optical zoom - excelent results
  • controls are reasonable, and there is specific on-viewer help for each setting
  • small, comapct & less than a pound!
  • long battery life & quick recharge

    Not so good:
  • sweep panorama gives sharp panoramas automatically, but only option is 4000x1000, AND you can't zoom; so it's more of a clever trick at the moment - my favored way of taking panoramas is merging 4 or 5 vetical images to get a better aspect than the extreme letterbox

    panorama example

    my preferred panorama shots

    Examples:

panorama stiched in PS from 4 vertical images
    zoom and action capture
    low light capture, handheld

For me, this is a great 2nd camera and light enough to never hesitate to have it with me. I can easily carry this skiing - the low light & 20x zoom will complement my DSLR. I have a slight hand tremor, and the image stabilization is a great help.

Too bad sony can't get it together to use the same memory cards and batteries in all their cameras!

New Graphic Design School Blog Inspires & Unites Students Worldwide

With over 30,000 hits in its second week the Graphic Design School blog is uniting graphic design students worldwide with high profile mentors from Leo Burnett agencies and Veerle Pieters.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWeb) May 26, 2009 -- The Graphic Design School announces the launch of its innovative new blog offering another platform for their students to showcase their talents. With 30,000+ hits in the second week, the blog looks sure to add to the school's success.

The Graphic Design School blog has attracted contributions from top agencies including Leo Burnett, the infamous Graphic Design student Jacob Cass, and one of the most influential designers on the web, Veerle Pieters. An occasional drawback of online education may be the feeling of isolation from your student community, therefore this blog, along with the student forum, bridges that gap for online students. The interactivity within this kind platform offers a global hub for meeting and exchanging ideas with mentors, experts, enthusiasts and fellow students.

Director Simone Giorgi says, "We are hoping that students will take full advantage of this platform to help launch their careers. This new generation of designers are a creative force to be reckoned with. They are smart, inventive and savvy like never before. The blog offers them an outlet to gain experience and exposure whilst studying. We have some extremely talented students completing our graphic design course and consider it an absolute privilege to play such a large part in their development and growth."

"It's very important for us that this blog continues to empower and educate our students further beyond the course. Design is always evolving, keeping abreast of trends, techniques and relevant information is far more important for students now than ever before. We are offering the most well rounded online education in graphic design today and the blog completes that picture. It's also a bunch of fun!" says Professor Kellie Schroeder.

Photos by Hasselblad 2009 Masters Finalists Now Online

For the First Time, Public Can Vote for Favorite Images

The top 100 finalists in the Hasselblad 2009 Masters Awards Competition have been selected and their images are now online for viewing and voting by the public. Selected from 2,300 applicants, the finalists are as diverse creatively as they are geographically.

Photographers from China, Japan, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, India, Canada, the United States, Italy, Australia, Germany, and other countries have captured images that reflect 10 categories: architectural, editorial, fashion/beauty, fine art, general, landscapes/nature, portrait, products, upcoming, and wedding/social.

“We are very proud of the quality of the photographers who entered the competition,” says Christian Nørgaard, Hasselblad Photographer Relations Manager. “It was a big, difficult task to narrow down the 2,300 entrants to 100.”

This year, for the first time, judging will be open to the public. A special online gallery and voting area will allow website visitors to vote for their favorite photographers and images. The public will serve as an additional “jury member,” helping the Masters Jury select semi-finalists and finalists.

“On January 1, 2010, the 10 winners will be named,” adds Nørgaard. “The winners will each have four months to create stunning images with the best Hasselblad equipment.

The jury for the 2009 Hasselblad Masters Awards is comprised of some of the industry’s most respected photographers and established magazine editors. Bringing their distinctive talents, experience, and perspective to judging this competition are: Anton Corbijn, Efrem Raimondi, Joachim Ladefoged, Steve McCurry, Douglas Kirkland, Tim Flach, Ian Farrell, Danqing Wen, Guillaume Cuvillier, Hasse Persson, Xie MoThomas Gerwers, Howard Bernstein, Peter Bialobrzeski, and F.C. Gundlach.

Control, Time Savings Shine Through in ACDSee Pro for Mac

VICTORIA, British Columbia – May 20, 2009 - The wait is over for professional photographers who want a faster, affordable, all-in-one photography workflow system to use on their Macs. ACD Systems International Inc. today opened beta testing for its new ACDSee™ Pro Photo Manager for Mac, the first version of the company’s acclaimed Pro Photo Manager software for Mac applications.

Beta downloads of ACDSee Pro for Mac are available at www.acdsee.com/proformac. Already, more than 2,800 devoted Mac users have signed on to participate in the beta period and provide feedback to ACD Systems developers for use in formulating the final version, which is set for release in 2010. To further bring Mac enthusiasts into the development process, ACD Systems compiled an advisory panel of 50 users to solicit insights on key workflow features that professional and advanced amateur photographers want and need.

“The number of photographers utilizing Macs is growing, and now these dedicated Mac followers can take advantage of photo management software features that have, up until now, been limited to PC systems,” said Tarjin Rahman, product manager for ACD Systems. “ACDSee Pro for Mac is the integrated image viewing, managing and editing solution that helps photographers take control of their workflow.”

Built from the ground up, ACDSee Pro for Mac will include the full set of fast workflow features that photographers have come to expect in ACDSee products. The initial beta release of ACDSee Pro for Mac will focus on the fundamentals of browsing, viewing, organizing and printing images.

Live Browsing Unlike catalog-based photo applications, ACDSee Pro for Mac skips the cumbersome step of importing files that are already on a hard drive or connected device. ACDSee Pro automatically detects external devices, including cameras, photo frames and memory cards, and allows users to simply drag and drop images onto a hard drive.

Professional photographers will also save time when it comes to accessing folders, which can be done live, in real time. ACDSee Pro instantly populates the file list with photo thumbnails.

“Navigating and viewing images without having to go through the import phase saves time and gives professional photographers the control they need in the creative process,” said Rahman.

    Quick Viewing
With ACDSee’s proprietary viewing technology, ACDSee Pro for Mac allows image viewing at unparalleled speeds – even large, high-resolution photos. More than 40 file types can be viewed, including common RAW formats, and photos can be displayed in full-screen presentation mode for maximum impact.

ACDSee Pro provides flexibility to quickly review just one photo or a series of photos. Users can scan through selected images at the click of an arrow key and use the filmstrip window to remain oriented within a large group of files. To add speed to the workflow process, photos can easily be rated and tagged in View mode.

    Robust File Format Support
Unlike most photo applications, ACDSee Pro for Mac supports browsing and organizing of additional file formats, including videos and documents. Users can also view file formats which are not decodable by ACDSee Pro, if the files’ native applications are installed on their systems.

    Organizing Flexibility
Beta testers will find that ACDSee Pro for Mac offers complete control over image storage on the computer. Quick and simple file organization stays true to the Mac philosophy with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Folder item counts help users see how many files and folders are stored in each location. Images can be organized into hierarchical custom categories that are virtual, meaning there’s no need to duplicate images.

With ACDSee Pro, users have live access to manage files on a hard drive and applicable connected devices, and can move, add, delete and rename folders and images within folders. ACDSee database information like categories and ratings, file properties like size and resolution, and EXIF data like ISO speed and focal length is available in the Properties pane. Finding images is fast and easy with complex browsing capabilities and instant thumbnail retrieval. Users can also complete common workflow steps like converting file formats and resizing and renaming files much more quickly using batch tools, which enables these functions to be performed on many files at once.

    Printing Control
Like other ACDSee Pro for Mac features that save time, printing images is fast and efficient. Beta testers can print single images, multi-image pages and contact sheets, and can select output size and orientation. Preferred options can be saved as presets to streamline the workflow process.

    Future Features
Additional features planned for subsequent beta releases of ACDSee Pro for Mac include professional non-destructive image processing; digital asset management leveraging IPTC, XMP, and EXIF metadata standards; browsing of unconnected devices; and integration with Mac OS X technologies including Quick Look, Cover Flow and Spotlight.

    Pricing and availability
ACDSee Pro for Mac is in beta testing at www.acdsee.com/proformac. The full release of the product is anticipated for release in 2010. At that time, ACDSee Pro for Mac will be available for a free 30-day trial and for purchase at $169.99 (USD) by visiting www.acdsee.com.
