Olympus Brings Creative Freedom to the E-450 DSLR

Entry-Level Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera Debuts Mother’s Day Weekend

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., March 31, 2009 – Olympus announces its new entry-level digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera, which is small in size and powerful in creativity. The new E-450 continues the E-400 series’ heritage of a small and portable design, powerful features, and ease of use for any skill level, including first time digital camera users. Thanks to Art Filters pioneered with the E-30 and E-620, the E-450 provides consumers with the creative freedom to capture their images in new fun and exciting ways.

The three Art Filters – Pop Art, Pin Hole and Soft Focus – bring greater creativity and freestyle experimentation to the new E-450. The creative filters were first introduced in Olympus’ E-30 prosumer DSLR earlier this year, and now enable consumers to express themselves and capture it all – limited only by their imagination. The E-450 offers the 10-megapixel imager and other features from the E-420.

The new camera also provides heavyweight technologies, including a bigger, more viewable 2.7-inch LCD and fast consumer-friendly On-Screen Autofocus, Face Detection, Shadow Adjustment Technology and Perfect Shot Preview to get the most out of the Live View experience. Additionally, when it comes to Live View, not all LCDs are created equal. At 2.7-inches, the portable E-450 LCD is large enough for users to compose and review images without squinting. The small camera’s LCD is part of a camera with technologies intelligent enough to take advantage of the Live View photography experience. These innovative technologies include:

* On-Screen Autofocus works as seamlessly as a point-and-shoot to display subjects in focus on the LCD the instant the shutter is pressed half way;
* Face Detection Technology targets and locks on up to eight faces to ensure they are in focus and crystal clear for amazing portraits;
* New and Improved HyperCrystal II™ Technology delivers twice the contrast and better viewing in extreme lighting conditions, a broader range of color detail, and a wider angle of view on the LCD so you and your friends can see it up to 176 degrees off-center;
* Shadow Adjustment Technology captures detail in the bright areas of a frame and opens up detail in the shadows that other cameras would render too dark or underexposed; and
* Perfect Shot Preview enables you to view and select your favorite effect right on the LCD, and see how the image will look before you even capture it, so you know that what you see is what you get.

Olympus is scheduled to launch the E-450 DSLR on leading multimedia retailer QVC® Saturday, May 9.
“We are thrilled to debut the much-anticipated Olympus E-450,” said Rob Ellerstein, director of electronics merchandising for QVC. “Thanks to our strong relationship with Olympus, we are not only offering the most innovative new products but we are also giving our customers the opportunity to order them before they hit stores.”

The product will be widely available in the U.S. and Canada in July.

Make Your Vision Come to Life with Art Filters
If you’re hoping to get more out of your camera than simply capturing and documenting a scene, and enjoy enhancing or customizing an image to make it your own, then you will value the camera’s Art Filters. The filters, which are built into the camera, provide incredible individual artistic control over an image, and remove the need to spend time altering images on the computer with editing software.

This camera was made for free-style shooting, experimenting and engaging with events and subjects. Enjoy the freedom of Autofocus Live View and dramatic effects to transform your day-to-day shots into compositions that you can be proud of with the following in-camera Art Filters:

* Pop Art: Enhances colors, making them more saturated and vivid, creating high-impact pictures that express the joyful, lighthearted feeling of the Pop Art style of the 1960s;
* Soft Focus: Creates an ethereal, otherworldly atmosphere that renders subjects in a heavenly light without obscuring details; and
* Pin Hole: Reduces the peripheral brightness of an image as though it were shot through a pin hole, connecting the viewer intimately with the subject at the center of the picture.

Art Filters are easily activated with the mode dial on the right side of the camera body. The effects are viewable right on the new camera’s 100 percent accurate 2.7-inch Live View LCD when using the E-450 in Live View mode or when reviewing the captured image.

The Live View Experience
Olympus was the first to bring Live View to a consumer DSLR (the E-330 in 2006), and Live View has revolutionized DSLR photography. Anyone who has photographed young children knows that you get the best reactions when you hold the camera away from your face and maintain eye contact and an engaging smile. If you have tried to take photos high above the heads in a crowd or low near the ground, you will appreciate that it is easier to use the LCD screen than to climb a ladder or lie on the ground.

The E-450 solves these problems with its Live View LCD, which enables photographers to easily and comfortably hold the camera at angles that could not be reached by using the optical viewfinder alone. The E-450’s Live View autofocus functionality now simplifies the process by working just like a point and shoot. By simply pressing the shutter button halfway, your subjects come into focus on the LCD, so when the perfect moment occurs it is easy to capture sharp images.

Always Find a Face in the Crowd
A camera this consumer-friendly is perfect for taking portraits of friends and family while out and about. The E-450’s Face Detection feature distinguishes between people’s faces and the background. It tracks up to eight faces within the image area and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures. Even if your subjects are moving, the camera continuously tracks their faces.

Bright Day or Deep Shadow, Never Miss a Detail
Shooting scenes with shadows can be tricky because of the extreme contrast between dark and bright areas. The E-450 addresses this challenge with Shadow Adjustment Technology that compensates for extreme contrast when shadow areas are underexposed and lack visible detail. Now users can preview and capture images with the same fine contrast they see with their own eyes.

Preview All the Possibilities
With 18 pre-set scene-select modes for every imaginable shooting scenario and full manual controls, the E-450 offers a world of possibilities to photographers. Additionally, Perfect Shot Preview enables users to preview and select various photographic effects on a live, multi-window screen on the LCD before snapping the shot. This feature shows photographers what their images will look like beforehand under various settings, ensuring that they capture exactly what they want. It is an ideal way for novice users to learn about the effects of different photography techniques, such as exposure compensation, white balance and metering.

Enlarge Your Photos
Capturing, enlarging and displaying amazing images on your wall is a snap thanks to the E-450’s 10 million pixels for high-resolution photos. The 10-megapixel sensor gives users the flexibility to enlarge prints to the sizes supported by many of today’s printers, or crop the image to print only a part of the image that is important to them. The high-performance Live MOS image sensor in the E-450 delivers excellent dynamic range for accurate color fidelity and a state-of-the-art image processor dramatically reduces noise and captures fine image details in the highlight and shadow areas.

Improved Auto White Balance
Many digital SLR users want to focus their attention on things other than white balance while they are on the move. As a result, the E-450 features an improved automatic white balance performance with a new algorithm for more accurate color.

TruePic III+ for Image Clarity & Speed
Olympus’ TruePic III+ Image Processor produces crystal clear photos using all the pixel information for each image to provide the best digital images possible for every photo with accurate color, true-to-life flesh tones, brilliant blue skies and precise tonal representation in between. TruePic III+ also lowers image noise by one step to reduce graininess in images shot at higher ISO settings, enabling great results in low-light situations.

Worried about missing the winning goal at the soccer game? The image processor on the E-450 enables it to shoot up to 3.5 frames per second in sequential shooting mode, which means that photographers will be able to capture fast-paced action as it happens.

Dust Reduction System for Spot-Free Images
Life moves too fast to spend time worrying about dust ruining your images. Olympus’ proven Dust Reduction System produces spot-free photos with the exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter™. The patented ultrasonic technology vibrates to remove dust and other particles from the front of the image sensor and captures it on a special adhesive membrane every time the camera is turned on. This results in beautiful images free from dust spots, which could ruin or be distracting on an image.

Media Versatility
Accepting both CompactFlash Type I & II, Microdrives, and xD-Picture Cards, the E-450 provides a choice of data storage options for enhanced flexibility, and it is possible to transfer image files from one card to the other right inside the camera.

Wireless Flash Capability
If you decide to venture into the arena of advanced lighting, the E-450 is ready to meet the challenge. The E-450 is compatible with the Olympus FL-50R and FL-36R wireless electronic flashes that are designed exclusively for digital photography. When these flashes are used in combination with the E-450, wireless multi-flash photography is possible. The E-450 can control up to three wireless flash groups independently, with several flash units per group.

The Olympus E-450 DSLR will be available in July 2009. It includes E-450 Body, ED 14-42mm f3.5/5.6 Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens, ED 40-150mm f4.0/5.6 Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens, USB Cable, Video Cable, Li-Ion Battery Pack (BLS-1), Li-Ion Battery Charger (BCS-1), Shoulder Strap, OLYMPUS Master 2 Software CD-ROM, Manuals and Warranty Card.

CANON U.S.A. INTRODUCES THE FIRST-EVER DIGIC NET POWERED FIXED MINI DOME NETWORK CAMERA

The VB-C500D Fixed Mini Dome Network Camera combines Genuine Canon Optics and Canon's Powerful DIGIC NET Processor to Offer Outstanding Image Quality

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., March 31, 2009 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today announced the new high-performance VB-C500D Fixed Mini Dome Network Camera which features a stylish modern design, a range of advanced features and outstanding image quality, making it a cost-effective means of capturing high-quality video for remote monitoring over IP. The VB-C500D is ideally suited for any location where a fixed security camera is required, including reception areas and convenience stores, tight spaces like elevator/ATM lobbies, and in upscale environments like hotels and condominiums where the camera needs to complement the interior design.

"The Canon brand and products are synonymous with the highest image quality, and our security cameras are designed accordingly," stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager of the Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "An increasing number of professionals are demanding better image quality and more advanced features from their security cameras, and the new VB-C500D certainly meets those needs. The VB-C500D was built using Genuine Canon Optics and our new powerful DIGIC NET Processor, both of which stem from our acclaimed lines of professional camera and camcorder products. The result is an image quality and value we believe is second to none. With the new VB-C500D, Canon has now raised mini dome camera performance to a new level."

VB-C500D Features
Central to the VB-C500D's design are the camera's Genuine Canon Optics and powerful DIGIC NET Processor. The camera features an 82-degree wide angle lens with 2.4x optical zoom (manual) and 4x digital zoom. When viewing moving objects, images remain clear thanks to a high-sensitivity progressive-scan CCD.

The VB-C500D includes an advanced Canon image processor which handles the white balance, exposure compensation, shutter speed, and color correction functions to ensure the camera maintains the highest image quality. The image processor also offers two important image enhancement functions, Smart Shade Control (SSC) and Auto/Day Night. Smart Shade Control automatically adjusts the contrast between bright and dark areas of an image for optimum detail display (eliminates "blown-out" images common with the backlight compensation function found on other cameras). The Auto Day/Night function allows the camera to automatically switch day/night modes depending upon lighting conditions. An additional Digital Night Mode automatically switches the camera from color to monochrome video without interruption, which on other cameras is caused by the insertion/removal of an IR cut filter.

Canon's proprietary DIGIC NET processor is a powerful hardware-based engine that performs all encoding and transmission. The DIGIC NET processor enables the VB-C500D to perform simultaneous Motion-JPEG (M-JPEG) and MPEG-4 video encoding and transmission in high-quality VGA (640 x 480) resolution at a full 30 frames per second. This combination is ideal as M-JPEG offers higher image quality, while MPEG-4's compression scheme offers lower bandwidth consumption and less storage space. The camera adds flexibility by allowing the distribution of M-JPEG images in three sizes simultaneously: 640 x 480, 320 x 240 and 160 x 120.

The VB-C500D can stream M-JPEG and MPEG-4 to multiple simultaneous viewing locations, and offers support for up to 30 simultaneous users to access and view video images at the same time (10 users for MPEG-4). There is also a built-in Web Viewer which allows for live monitoring on the Web without installing any software on to a computer.

Another key benefit of Canon's DIGIC NET processor is the camera's exceptional low-light performance. The VB-C500D will maintain Color Night Mode as low as 0.2 lux (SSC on and 1/30 sec. shutter speed), which enables the VB-C500D to capture color differences even in the lowest light conditions. This color accuracy can be crucial in making positive identification in many security monitoring applications.

In addition to the advantages provided by the cameras optics and processor, the new VB-C500D Fixed Mini Dome Network Camera also includes Motion Detection, Audio Input/Output, and a Recording Stream Function. The Motion Detection feature enables users to pre-set up to four motion detection areas, allowing the camera to take a picture when motion is detected and e-mail that image file to a designated account, including a cell phone, PDA or other device. This feature also allows the upload of multiple images to an http or ftp server. The Audio Input/Output feature supports full-duplex audio communication, and the Audio Output can be used to play back a pre-recorded sound when triggered by an event, such as motion detection. The camera's unique Recording Stream Function, which is compatible with all Canon software products, greatly minimizes the possibility of lost frames when viewing recorded video. This is made possible by the camera and software's ability to communicate and recognize when frames are lost due to brief network congestion/interruptions. The camera's large buffer, which retains the images captured during breaks in data transmission, will then send the missing frames to the recording server when the connection is resumed.

Included with the camera is IPv6 and IPsec Support (IP security), a set of protocols for securing IP communications by encrypting data streams while also securing the data flow to and from the camera, ensuring only authorized users have access.

The camera's design allows it to be placed in either an upright, ceiling-mounted, or wall-mounted position. For convenience and ease of installation, the VB-C500D supports the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, which allows both power and data to be carried over a single LAN cable when connected to a PoE hub/switch/midspan. Since a power cable is not required, the camera can be installed at sites without accessible AC outlets.

Version 2.1 Network Video Monitoring and Recording Software
In addition to the new VB-C500D, Canon has also released an updated Version 2.1 of its VK-64, VK-16, and VK-Lite Network Video Recording Softwares. These new versions offer full compatibility with all current Canon Network Cameras.

For even greater value, the VB-C500D Fixed Mini Dome Network Camera is bundled with one license of Canon's VK-Lite 2.1 Network Video Monitoring & Recording Software, an application that enables the user to monitor, record and playback images from up to four cameras from a single screen (additional licenses are available for $99* each).

Pricing and Availability
The Canon VB-C500D Fixed Mini Dome Network Camera has a suggested list price of $899, and is scheduled to begin shipping in May 2009. This new product will be on display in the Canon booth #24051 at the ISC West 2009 trade show being held from April 1-3, at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

CANON U.S.A. INTRODUCES THE EOS REBEL T1i DIGITAL SLR CAMERA THE FIRST REBEL DSLR TO FEATURE HD VIDEO CAPTURE

Canon Breaks the $1,000 Mark Again with the First EOS Rebel Camera to Feature HD Movie Recording Capabilities, DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor and 15.1 Megapixel Resolution

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., March 25, 2009 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today introduced a new addition to its Rebel lineup, the EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR camera, the first in the Rebel line to feature Full HD video capture. The new Canon Rebel T1i SLR incorporates some of the best technologies from the EOS 50D and EOS 5D Mark II models into an entry-level juggernaut. With a 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and HD video capture, along with the DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor, the Rebel T1i gives aspiring photographers plenty of reason to step-up to the latest and greatest model in the Rebel lineup.

The new Canon EOS Rebel T1i raises the entry-level bar with a host of enhanced Canon technologies now available in an entry-level DSLR. Along with the boost in megapixels and Canon's most advanced imaging processor to-date, this latest Rebel camera has also been enhanced with HD video capture, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) monitor and user-friendly functions such as Auto Lighting Optimizer, Creative Auto Mode and Canon's Live View modes, all the right tools to open new doors for imaging enthusiasts. From high-resolution to high-definition, the new EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR camera helps to give creative consumers a jumpstart on the next evolution in digital imaging.

"We are witnessing the emergence of a new phase in digital imaging history, as high-resolution still images and HD video can now both be produced in a hand-held device, for under $1,000. This is truly a great time to be involved in digital imaging as the advent of online communities are helping usher in this next great era in imaging," stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.

The muscle behind Canon's new EOS Rebel T1i camera is the DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor with 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion and the ability to process full HD video. The Canon EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR offers continuous shooting at 3.4 fps for up to 170 large/fine JPEG images or up to nine RAW images in a single burst when using a class 6 or higher SD or SDHC memory card. Whether capturing wildlife on the run or a child mid-stride on the soccer field, users will appreciate the fast shooting capabilities of the Rebel T1i Digital SLR camera.

With the combination of its 15.1-megapixel APS-C size CMOS image sensor and the powerful new DIGIC 4 image processor, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i camera provides ISO speeds from ISO 100 up to ISO 3200 in whole stop increments, along with two additional high-speed ISO settings – H1: 6400 and H2: 12800.

The EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR utilizes a precise nine-point Autofocus (AF) system and AF sensor for enhanced subject detection. The new EOS Rebel T1i DSLR provides a cross-type AF measurement at the center that is effective with all EF and EF-S lenses, while providing enhanced precision with lenses having maximum apertures of f/2.8 or faster. The cross-type AF measurement reads a wider variety of subject matter than conventional single-axis AF sensors and thus increases the new camera's ability to autofocus quickly and accurately when shooting still images.

The EOS Rebel T1i camera is compatible with Canon's complete line of over 60 Canon EF and EF-S lenses, to help provide an incredible variety of visual effects to both still and video imaging capture, including ultra-wide-angle and fish-eye to macro and super-telephoto. This includes all of Canon's large-aperture EF L-series professional lenses.

HD and SD Video Capture
After the introduction of the EOS 5D Mark II in September 2008, the Company's first HD video DSLR, Canon has integrated this must-have feature into the new entry-level flagship EOS Rebel T1i camera. The camera features 16:9 720p HD video capture at 30 fps as well as a Full HD 1080p video capture at 20 fps, and a third option to record 4:3 standard TV quality (SD) video capture at 640 x 480 pixels and 30 fps. The video capture mode is part of the camera's Live View function, using the Picture Style that has been set for Live View still image shooting. The camera allows skilled photographers and enthusiasts to adjust image sharpness, contrast, color saturation and white balance, and have those settings apply to the movie image as well. When recording video, the camera's rear LCD screen is letter-boxed by a semi-transparent border to match the aspect ratio of the movie recording size.

Like the EOS 5D Mark II model, the EOS Rebel T1i camera will record video up to 4GB per clip equaling approximately 12 minutes of Full HD video, 18 minutes of 720p HD video, or 24 minutes of SD video depending on the level of detail in the scene.i Video clips are recorded in .MOV format using an MPEG-4 video compression and sound is recorded using linear PCMii without compression. The camera features a built-in monaural microphone to record sound. To help show off those fantastic movies as well as still photos, the EOS Rebel T1i camera includes an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) output to display crisp, clear images on a High-Definition TV.

Live View Shooting
Much like the EOS 5D Mark II, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i camera features Live View for both still images as well as video. The Rebel T1i features the Company's three Live View AF modes – Quick, Live and Face Detection Live mode – which can be used to capture still photos or video images. Quick mode automatically sets One-Shot AF using the camera's phase detection AF system. It also allows users to select the AF point, even while the Live View image is displayed. Although the camera's reflex mirror must be lowered briefly to take an AF measurement in Quick mode, it is the fastest way to set focus automatically when the Rebel T1i camera is set for Live View.

Live mode uses contrast-detection AF with the image sensor and here, as with Quick mode, users can change the location of the active AF point using the Multi-controller. Face Detection Live mode uses contrast AF to recognize human faces. When multiple faces are detected, the largest face closest to the center of the frame is targeted as the AF point. While Live View is engaged, users can still change settings including the AF mode (Quick, Live, Face Detection Live mode), drive mode, ISO speed, Picture style, White Balance and more.

Auto Lighting Optimizer
Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology helps ensure that the subject of each picture is clearly visible by analyzing image brightness and automatically adjusting dark areas in images so they appear brighter. This is ideal when shooting high-contrast situations that include harsh shadow areas, such as landscape images where the foreground is brightly lit and the background detail blanketed in dark shadow. In a scene such as this, the EOS Rebel T1i camera's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology maintains exposure of the highlight areas while lightening shadow areas for a more enjoyable and evenly illuminated image. The EOS Rebel T1i also supports Peripheral Illumination Correction for up to 40 Canon EF and EF-S lenses.

Canon's Creative Auto Mode
Canon's "CA" Creative Full Auto setting available on the EOS Rebel T1i, EOS 50D and EOS 5D Mark II cameras allows users to make image adjustments such as exposure compensation, aperture or shutter speed through a simple navigation screen on the camera's LCD screen, allowing them to "blur the background" or "lighten or darken the image" with ease. These easy-to-understand image options allow learning-photographers to experiment with image options while still shooting in an automatic mode.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System
With the introduction of the EOS Rebel T1i camera, the entire Canon EOS system is now equipped with the highly acclaimed EOS Integrated Cleaning System. The Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit for the Canon EOS Rebel T1i has been upgraded with a fluorine coating on the low-pass filter for better dust resistance.
Pricing and Availability
The Canon EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR Camera is scheduled for delivery by early May and will be sold in a body-only configuration which includes a rechargeable battery pack and charger, USB and video cables, a neckstrap, an EOS Solutions Disk CD and a 1-year Canon U.S.A., Inc. limited warranty at an estimated retail price of $799.99iii. It will additionally be offered in a kit version with Canon's EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $899.99iv.

Canon Speedlite 270EX
The new Canon Speedlite 270EX, the successor to the 220EX Speedlite model, is a compact, lightweight external flash option for Canon cameras including select Canon PowerShot models. Ideal for use with the new EOS Rebel T1i, the new Speedlite 270EX uses only two AA batteries and enables bounce flash shooting with four position steps from 0 degrees to 90 degrees. Like Canon's high-end Speedlite flash models, the 270EX allows users to control flash functions and input settings using the camera's LCD monitorv. The flash also features a quick-lock mechanism and a metal mounting foot for secure and easy attachment and reliable contact.

The rapid growth of Shutterstock’s video collection has company poised to capitalize on the global surge in online video use

New York, March 25, 2009 – Shutterstock, the world’s largest subscription-based online stock image agency, just announced that Shutterstock Footage has added its 100,000th clip to its rapidly expanding online library of high quality royalty-free stock footage.

Shutterstock was the first company to offer affordable, royalty-free stock video clips by subscription when it launched Shutterstock Footage in 2006. Now adding over 2,000 clips per week, Shutterstock is poised to capitalize on the increasing global appetite for watching video across several platforms.

In the US alone, the amount of people viewing video on television, Internet and mobile devices continues to increase and has reached new heights, according the Nielsen Company’s “A2/M2 Three Screen Report,” released last year.

“We’re very excited about the growth of Shutterstock Footage,” said Jon Oringer, founder and CEO of Shutterstock. “The fact that we have reached 100,000 high quality clips in just three years demonstrates the huge growth potential of stock video, as well as the enthusiasm of our talented filmmakers and videographers from around the world.”

One such videographer, Jon Paul Careless of London, England, is a top submitter at Shutterstock, having uploaded more than 1,700 clips to the site since June of 2007.

“Due to the popularity of my clips on Shutterstock, I’ve been taking trips to different parts of the world to shoot timely topics such as wind and solar farms,” said Careless. “As the result of the strong commissions, I plan to shoot stock full-time within a year.”

Thanks to Shutterstock’s global base of videographers like Careless, Shutterstock’s library continues to grow, both in size and diversity.

“Our expansive clip library ensures that subscribers can rely on us for a diverse selection of content,” said Adam Riggs, president and CFO of Shutterstock. “Our customers range from film, TV and news producers to multimedia advertising directors, website developers, and bloggers. With subscriptions as low as $49, anyone can afford compelling video from Shutterstock.”

PANASONIC EXPANDS ITS LUMIX MICRO G SYSTEM WITH TWO LENSES COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW DMC-GH1 DIGITAL CAMERA

New Micro Four Thirds Lenses Offer Increased Range and Flexibility for Taking Professional-Quality Photos and High Definition Video

Las Vegas, NV (March 3, 2009) – Panasonic today introduced two new lenses for its LUMIX G Micro System – the innovative digital interchangeable lens camera system – the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. and the LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH. Both lenses are compatible with the newly announced LUMIX DMC-GH1 digital camera, which can record High Definition (HD) AVCHD 1080/24p video, and its award-winning sister camera, the LUMIX DMC-G1 digital camera.

“Panasonic is excited and proud to expand our LUMIX G Micro System – with the addition of these two new Micro Four Thirds lenses, as well as the LUMIX DMC-GH1, which can record superb High Definition video, “said David Briganti, National Marketing Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. “We firmly believe that consumers of all skill levels can benefit from the advanced features we are able to pack into these new compact lenses and camera bodies.”

The new LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S., available as part of the kit with the DMC-GH1, or separately, incorporates an inner focus direct-drive linear motor for focusing. This allows fast and accurate contrast auto focus (AF) to operate smoothly and silently – a necessity for video recording. Adopting the Micro Four Thirds System standard, the new LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. offers a long zoom of 14-140mm (35mm camera equivalent: 28-280mm), suitable for a wide range of shooting situations – from scenery to portraits to telephoto shots – all possible with a compact and lightweight lens.

The LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. uses four aspherical lenses and two ED lenses to achieves dramatic downsizing – despite its powerful 10x optical zoom – and still minimizes distortion and chromatic aberration. Panasonic's Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) is incorporated in the lens, making it easy to shoot clear shots even in telephoto shooting or in low-light situations – as this feature minimizes blur caused by hand shake.

Panasonic’s other new lens, the ultra-wide-angle zoom interchangeable lens LUMIX G VARIO

7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH features an astonishingly wide-angle zoom range of 7-14mm (35mm camera equivalent; 14-28mm). Its compact and lightweight size makes it easy for users to carry while they are on the go. Taking advantage of its 114-degree wide-angle view, users can fit more subjects in a frame – even when the shooting distance is limited, for example, while shooting indoors. This expansive view gives users great flexibility and a rich perspective when shooting photos or video.

The high-performing, yet lightweight LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH. achieves its compact size by incorporating two aspherical lenses and four ED lenses in a unit of 16 elements in 12 groups. The resolution of the images is high, even at its wide-end and features F4.0 brightness through its entire zoom range thanks to a large diameter glass-molded lens embedded within the body.

When both of these news lenses are mounted on the LUMIX DMC-GH1, users can take advantage of the advanced contrast AF system including Face Recognition, offering a variety of convenient and fun shooting. Seven aperture blades give the aperture a rounded shape that, when shooting at a larger aperture, produces an attractive smoothness in out-of-focus areas. Featuring highly-durable metal mounts, the new lenses use multicoated lens elements to reduce ghosting and flares, helping to deliver a positive user-experience – whether shooting HD videos or taking beautiful digital photos. Hasselblad Announces New DC Power Grip to Ship in April

Hasselblad’s new DC power grip for H3DII cameras, announced at Photokina 2008, will begin shipping in April.

Specially developed for the studio photographer who wants to power an H3DII camera directly from a domestic electrical outlet, the new grip is compatible with all H system models. The DC power grip lets you shoot without a reserve battery grip or take inhibiting power-conservation measures when working untethered.

Applications can range from working in the studio to specialized set-ups on location, where timed surveillance or remote controlled situations, for example, require the camera to be on standby or be active for long periods, unattended.

The grip fits the camera in the conventional manner, but takes its power requirements from an external source, connected via the supplied transformer. The outlet can be a regular domestic type, a generator, or a battery/transformer configuration that matches the specifications listed below.

SPECIFICATION:
Input Voltage: 100-240 VAC/50-60 Hz/1.3A
Output Voltage: 7.5 VDC / 6 A
Dimensions: 50 x 30 x 135mm (power supply)
Weight incl. grip: 135 g
DC cable length: 2 meters
DC plug type: Ø 6mm, centre pin 1,8mm
AC plug type: IEC 60320 C7
Compatibility: All H system cameras

A conventional AC plug on the transformer allows the freedom to use a standard power cord suited to the requirements of the country of use. In addition, the conventional DC plug on the grip allows a direct connection to a suitable matching power pack (7.5 VDC/3.5A, not available from Hasselblad) without the need for the transformer, for maximum flexibility.

Kodak Exposes: U.S. Consumers Overspent $5.0 Billion on Inkjet Printing in 2008

Kodak Backs Consumer Inkjet Business with Hard-Hitting Advertising Campaign to Continue to Spur Business Growth; Global ‘Print and Prosper’ Campaign Launched March 29

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Mar. 30 -- Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) today announced the launch of a global marketing campaign to support its revolutionary line of all-in-one inkjet printers. Kodak’s “Print and Prosper” campaign boldly exposes the issue of high-priced ink and how U.S. consumers overpaid for inkjet printer ink – to the tune of $5.0 billion in 2008 alone.*

Kodak first introduced its consumer inkjet line in 2007 and reinvented the consumer inkjet printer industry with a new business model – outstanding image quality, superior image permanence and significant savings on the price of ink. Consumers worldwide have embraced Kodak’s value proposition and the company’s installed base of inkjet printers has grown to more than one million units in the past two years. In 2009, Kodak aims to double that number and is supporting that goal with a series of marketing investments, including the “Print and Prosper” campaign.

“Paying too much for printer ink is a financial black hole that consumers can easily avoid,” said Jeffrey Hayzlett, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company. “Kodak’s approach is to let consumers know there is an alternative to high-priced ink. We sell reasonably priced printers that use reasonably priced ink, which can save consumers who print a lot on average $110 per year on ink.* That’s powerful – especially in this economic environment.”

‘Print and Prosper’

Kodak’s “Print and Prosper” campaign highlights today’s harsh economic climate and offers consumers a solution to help them save money. Bold campaign headlines will urge consumers to switch to Kodak and stop overpaying for printer ink. A comprehensive global campaign, created by Deutsch NY, launched March 29in the U.S. and Canada, and will be rolled out in additional countries over the next several months.

“This is a big, bold idea that doesn’t tiptoe around the issue and lets consumers know Kodak is on their side,” said Linda Sawyer, Chief Executive Officer, Deutsch Inc. “Kodak has a longstanding, deep and emotional relationship with consumers and, by exposing this issue, that relationship will only become stronger.”

The global campaign is designed to powerfully connect with Kodak’s target consumer – people who print a lot -- via television and newspaper placements, social media and websites like www.printandprosper.com. The campaign seeks to ignite the conversation around printing cost, bringing the issue of overpriced ink to the forefront.

In November 2008, Kodak tapped Deutsch to support the company’s inkjet marketing initiative in collaboration with longtime agency partners Ketchum Communications (New York, N.Y.), for public-relations, and Partners + Napier (Rochester, N.Y.), which handles business-to-business marketing.

How Much Do I Really Spend on Ink?

By going to www.printandprosper.com, consumers can calculate in seconds how much they overpaid for ink and how much they can save with Kodak. The personalized numbers, based on printer type and usage, demonstrate that a switch to a KODAK All-in One Inkjet Printer will help consumers print more and pay less. Kodak has also engaged Laura Rowley, an ardent consumer advocate and financial expert, to help expose the issue of high-priced ink and uncover other ways consumers can trim costs at home. Rowley writes a Yahoo! Finance column and personal blog about finance and value. Another effort to help consumers save money is Kodak’s iVillage “Stretch Your Dollar” Community Challenge coming this May.

*$5.0 Billion Overspent in Inkjet Printing

Large Aperture, Standard Zoom with Optical Stabilization

An upgrade to its predecessor, the 18-50mm F2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM is a lens dedicated to digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensors offering a large aperture and Sigma’s Optical Stabilization. Once again, Sigma has also engineered the built-in OS function, an anti-shake system, for Sony and Pentax mount allowing the photographer to see a stabilized image in the viewfinder. The combination of the large aperture of F2.8 and anti-shake function makes capturing exceptional photos in low light achievable, and the wide angle is well suited for indoor photography. Two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and three Aspherical lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting. Designed with inner focusing and inner zooming systems, high image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The overall length of the lens does not change during focusing and zooming ensuring convenient handling. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 11.8 inches (30cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.1. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet and high speed auto focus. Arrival is March of ‘2009.

February 09 was my best month ever. The income increased by 71% compared to January 09. For most of the month StockXpert was ahead of Shutterstock. This only change by a very small margin in the last few days. Some agencies show up in the graph with 0% because there income was less then 1%. Agencies with no income do not show up on the graph.

March 09 will be an interesting month for me, because I will not have time to upload images to the agencies. Shutterstock will be the only agency I will be uploading 5 images per week. This will show if other agencies will drop if there is no stream of images that I supply. If you are interested of the outcome, please look for the March statistic next month.
