New York Institute of Photography Creates Facebook Event to Assist New York Non-profit Rehabilitation Through Photograph

The New York Institute of Photography is tapping its large community of photography students, fans, and enthusiasts to help a local non-profit group who uses photography as a rehabilitation tool. Anyone can help out by donating money or cameras to RTP (Rehabilitation Through Photography).

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 28, 2010 -- Asking social media fans to pitch in for a great and needy cause, the New York Institute of Photography has (www.nyip.com) launched a 10-day event asking its 13,000 Facebook friends to donate used cameras to Rehabilitation Through Photography (RTP), the premier non-profit providing photography classes to individuals in need from childhood to old age. Cameras For Kids Holds 'Why I Love Photography' Essay And Photography Contest For Kids Ages 7 To 14

The photography and essay contest is open to anyone age 7 to 14. There is no entry fee. Winners will be announced on the Cameras For Kids website and winners will receive a copy of John Crippen's book, 'Cameras For Kids'

ATASCADERO, CA, May 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Crippen of Cameras For Kids announced today the 'Why I Love Photography'essay and photography contest. The contest is open to children ages 7 through 14. There is no charge for entry in the contest. Winners will be announced on the Cameras For Kids website and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive a copy of Crippen's book, 'Cameras For Kids'. The goal of the contest, like Mr. Crippen's book, is to increase awareness of the value of the only form of technology that draws kids and teens into the world, rather than creating in them a tendency to withdraw from social interaction.

"There are many studies," stated Mr. Crippen, "which clearly demonstrate that kids and teens are being negatively affected by interacting with modern technology. From cell phones to video games, computers to dvd's, the documented effect on kids and teens is unquestionably negative. These negative effects are caused primarily by the tendency to withdraw from social interaction, withdrawal from society in general, a lack of exercise - even vitamin deficiencies resulting from lack of sunshine. Cameras could be said to be one of the only forms of modern day technology that require that the participant interact directly with the world around him or her. Photography and cameras sharpen and enhance creative thinking, improve observational skills and allow kids and teens to reconnect with the world around them."

This new powerhouse point-and-shoot camera is the first of the Digital ELPH series to offer a high-sensitivity system, known as Canon's HS SYSTEM, with a CMOS sensor and bright f/2.0 lens. Offering consumers the most enhanced image quality available in an ELPH series camera, these features help to capture those wonderful moments in low-light conditions. The PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH camera also has high definition (HD) movie-shooting capabilities, providing an additional option for cataloging memorable events. Primarily, the new PowerShot SD4000 IS is great for any user with an attention for up-to-date functionality and style.

Whether attending a relative's sunset wedding or meeting friends in a dimly lit restaurant, these are times where the new PowerShot SD4000 IS showcases its best attributes. Tamron Announces Entry Into Far-IR Compliant Zoom Lenses with Its Proprietary VC Image Stabilization System

IFSEC '10, Birmingham, UK - Tamron Co., Ltd., Saitama, Japan announces two prototype zoom lens models designed for true Far-Infra Red Imaging with its proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) system built in, the very first in the industry.

The two zooms include 14-40mm and 35-105mm, addressing needs for wideangle and telephoto coverage with versatility in use with the zoom ratio of 3X. Integration of the VC feature certainly enhances practical values, delivering crisp IR images without blurring effect caused by camera vibration.

"Expansion of Tamron's product portfolio to the true far-infrared zone, stretching out to 14000nm wavelength range is a quantum leap in a sense", stated Mr. Morio Ono, president & CEO of Tamron Co., Ltd., Japan, "but this is in line with our corporate management direction to bring new imaging solution to a whole variety of industries, and a departure from optics for visible ray."

The new zoom lenses are designed and produced based on years of expertise in optical design and process technologies available at Tamron, and yet, they did not shape a form without developing new approaches both in design and engineering, which are distinctively different from conventional methodologies. "Simply put, you cannot see anything through the lens because it does not transmit the bandwidth of light that human eyes can recognize. Therefore, no alignment fixtures, for instance, developed in the past works in the way they are supposed to function. A whole new devices are required for metrology alone", so revealed a story behind the scene of development process.

The Far-IR vision systems, for many years to date, were nearly used exclusively for military and/or intelligence related arena by nature. However, when the Swine Flu broke out as a potentially serious threat to human beings, thermal-detection camera emerged as a star apparatus to cope with the situation. Implementation of preventive measures are the key to avoid spread of such threat around the globe, and detecting body temperatures in a non-offensive fashion with reasonably high accuracy was proven to an highly efficient tool.

Likewise, detecting heat of an electric wire before a fire breaks out, or monitoring thermal profile of equipment of some sort in a totally dark environment with zero ambient light becomes feasible and manageable by using a Far-IR camera imaging.

"A lot of new applications absolutely isolated from arms-oriented field is where we would like to be in", concluded Mr. Ono, "where we can expect to bring in higher level of security in people's living".

Jalbum New Version 8.8

Jalbum
This release has a number of minor improvements targeted to improve usability and simplify for skin developers. The most noticeable change for Windows users is that we're now using Windows standard file chooser for picking images for your album instead of the "XP looking" file chooser provided by Java. For Vista and Windows 7 Jalbum will feel more like a first class citizen on your desktop now.

Download Jalbum

News and Updates
  • Windows users now get the native Windows file chooser when adding images to Jalbum
  • Ability to sign in using either email or username (even for first time sign in)
  • More forgiving when reading corrupted images (will load using old API if new API fails)
  • Image bounds selector modified so it is more obvious that one can set any image bounds, not just the presets
  • New splash screen and sign in window (with the close button to the right this time)
  • Updated bundled skins Turtle, Chameleon, Galleria and Simplicity. Thanks all skin developers!
  • On Windows, bundled skins are now installed in the same location as installed skins (under AppData\Jalbum\skins)
  • New variable "contentPath". contentPath works like imagePath, but links to the content of movie files instead of to an icon
  • New variable "mimeType" available. mimeType reads from system/filetypes.xml. (Currently only a few file types have MIME type defined)
  • Image specific skin defined variables now have automatic data type mapping too (were previously all considered Strings)

Bug fixes
  • Media RSS file wasn't linking properly to movie files
