The new Lightroom mobile app brings powerful Lightroom tools to the iPad, delivering photography essentials – such as non-destructive processing of files – and utilizing new Smart Preview technologies to free professional-class photo editing from the confines of the desktop. iPhones secretly tracking you?

(CNN) -- Apple devices appear to be tracking their owners' locations and storing data about people's whereabouts without their knowledge, according to a report posted Wednesday on a site called iPhone Tracker.


The unauthorized surveillance started in June 2010, when the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system was released, according to two researchers who say they discovered a hidden tracking file and posted it out of concern for users. ...

MBP Podcast Companion iPhone/iPad App

Recently I discovert the iPhone app MBP Podcast Companion iPhone/iPad, and I love it. It is informative and the DOF calculator is a very helpful tool.

The MBP Podcast Companion iPhone/iPad App is a portal to a wealth of photography information and education, centered on the Martin Bailey Photography Podcast, Forum and Community, and includes useful applications to help you in your everyday photographic endeavors.

Podcast Player

This is an audio and video player to augment the Podcast. It displays the images being discussed as you listen, and is really just an alternative way to listen to the Podcasts for when you don’t have access to iTunes. You can also play the audio via the player or iTunes on your iPod, while you use the DoF Calculator so we can walk through calculations as you listen when necessary.

Depth-of-Field Calculator

The easy to use DoF calculator enables you to see how much of your subject or scene will be in focus with any given camera or CoC (Circle of Confusion) size, focal length, aperture and distance-to-subject combination. Each value can be set individually and you can also see the hyperfocal distance for that focal length/aperture combination or reset the calculator to hyperfocal distance values by tapping the green Hyperfocal Distance box.

NOTE: If all this talk of Circle of Confusion and Hyperfocal Distance is above your head, then this tool is definitely making your day easier.


Twitter Updates

There’s a Twitter page that displays Martin’s last 10 Tweets, and has a button to jump to the Twitter time-line, if you want to follow links or interact with Martin etc.

There’s a page with links to the main Web sites that we use on the MBP Community, including the Blog, which automatically formats posts for the iPhone or displays the standard format if you prefer, and you can jump to the forums and Members’ Galleries as well as Martin’s Photography Tour and Workshops site among others.

You know how you sometimes want to ask something or send feedback while listening, but by the time you get to your computer you’ve forgotten? Now there’s a Contact page right there in the app, with links to send Martin an email, or to jump to the Contact form, if you want to send a message via the Web site.

Apple Launches iPad

Magical & Revolutionary Device at an Unbelievable Price

SAN FRANCISCO—January 27, 2010—Apple® today introduced iPad, a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more. iPad’s responsive high-resolution Multi-Touch™ display lets users physically interact with applications and content. iPad is just 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds— thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook. iPad includes 12 new innovative apps designed especially for the iPad, and will run almost all of the over 140,000 apps in the App Store. iPad will be available in late March starting at the breakthrough price of just $499.

All the apps and content you download on iPad from the App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore will be automatically synced to your iTunes library the next time you connect with your computer.

The highly precise, capacitive Multi-Touch display is amazingly accurate and responsive whether scrolling web pages or playing games. *Apple tested wireless battery life by browsing web pages and receiving email over an AirPort® network, never letting the system go to sleep during the test, and keeping the display at half brightness. This is a typical scenario of use on the go, resulting in a battery performance number that is very relevant to mobile users.

**A properly maintained iPad battery is designed to retain 80 percent or more of its original capacity during a lifespan of up to 1,000 recharge cycles. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings.
