LAS VEGAS (CES Booth #14200), Jan. 5, 2010 – Sony today unveiled its new Handycam® camcorders, Bloggie® cameras and Cyber-shot® digital still cameras with powerful image sensors, new innovative features and strong core video and still photo capture capabilities that make it even easier to get the best shot—even in 3D.
“With these new camcorders and cameras, Sony continues to transform ideas into reality, imagination into real-world products,” said Brennan Mullin, senior vice president of the digital imaging group.
New digital imaging products and accessories will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES International Convention). In the Handycam category, Sony will showcase the world’s first “Double Full HD” 3D consumer camcorder (HDR-TD10) with a glasses-free 3D LCD touch panel display, camcorders with a built-in projector (HDR-PJ50V, HDR-PJ30V and HDR-PJ10) and a video enthusiast-level consumer camcorder with hallmark Handycam features (HDR-CX700V).
In the MP4 video category, the company will display Bloggie 3D—the world’s first HD 3D pocket camera (MHS-FS3)—an innovative model with two lenses, two image sensors, and stereo microphone that captures easy-to-share 3D or 2D video and photos. You can view 3D images without glasses on the built-in LCD.
In the Cyber-shot category, the company will feature the world’s first digital still cameras with 1080/60p HD video capability (DSC-TX100V) and 3D Still Image mode with a single lens and imager (DSC-TX10, DSC-HX7V, DSC-WX10, and DSC-WX9). These new top models also add a 16.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS sensor and one model adds a touch screen with OLED.
Additionally, Sony will highlight the new DVDirect® (VBD-MA1), which offers easy, one-touch transfer of high definition video and images to Blu-ray Disc™ media.
High-Definition Camcorders
Along with significant improvements in the entire Handycam camcorder family, three new additions bring 3D technology, a video projector and enthusiast solutions to Sony’s industry-leading high definition lineup.
Adding to Sony’s breadth of 3D products, the HDR-TD10 is the world’s first “Double Full HD” 3D consumer camcorder. The camcorder employs an integrated dual lens system, which includes two of each key component—double Sony G Lenses, double “Exmor R” CMOS image sensors, and double BIONZ® image processors. The dual recording system allows 3D content to be recorded in 1920x1080 Full HD resolution. The content can be viewed with 3D active glasses on 3D-capable HDTVs or in Full HD 2D on non-3D displays. In addition, the 3D footage can be viewed in 3D without glasses on the camcorder’s 3.5-inch Xtra Fine LCD™ 3D touch screen. Providing 64 GB of flash memory, the HDR-TD10 will be available in April for about $1,500.
Handycam camcorders with a built-in video projector offer the ultimate playback experience, even on the go. A compact, LED-based projector is built into the 3-inch flip-out LCD panel, maintaining the camcorder’s compact size and allowing video and images to be projected at up to 60 inches (diagonally; when projected 18 feet away) onto walls, ceilings or other flat surfaces.
Combined with powerful stereo speakers with Clear Phase™ and S-Master™ digital amplifiers, the integrated projector provides a whole new way to enjoy video playback without needing to plug into an HDTV. The HDR-PJ50V with a 220GB Hard Disk Drive will be available in April for about $1000, while the HDR-PJ30V with 32GB of flash memory and HDR-PJ10 with 16GB of flash memory will be available in March for about $950 and $700, respectively.
Sony also introduced the video enthusiast-level HDR-CX700V consumer camcorder with hallmark Handycam features—“Exmor R” CMOS image sensor, Wide Angle Sony G Lens, Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization with Active Mode, Event Browse, Highlight Playback—and a wealth of new technologies borrowed from Sony’s professional products. The camera boasts film-like shooting with 24p native recording, along with CinemaTone presets, as well as advanced features such as Expanded Focus, Zebra and Peaking settings and other manual controls. The newly developed 16:9 “Exmor R” CMOS sensor realizes a wider angle of view and higher megapixels for video and photos. With 96 GB of flash memory, the HDR-CX700V will be available in March for about $1,300.
On the other end of the video spectrum, Sony’s affordable and fun Bloggie HD camera line welcomes three models that each brings distinct value to the category.
The world’s first HD 3D pocket camera,* the MHS-FS3 “Bloggie 3D” model boasts two lenses, two image sensors and two stereo speakers to capture incredible 3D or 2D video and photos.
Recorded content from the MHS-FS3 can be played back in 3D without glasses on the camera’s 2.4-inch LCD screen or on any 3D capable HDTV with glasses.
The wonderfully simple HD camera lineup also offers a dual-screen option dubbed the Bloggie Duo camera (MHS-FS2). The slim camera features two vibrant LCD screens—2.7-inch on the back and 2-inch on the front—for new ways to capture yourself and others in full HD video or 5.1-megapixel photos. The Bloggie Duo camera has a built-in LED light and comes in four fashionable colors including violet, green, pink and white.
An entry model completes the trio of Bloggie camera introductions, offering on-the-go video lovers a smart, pocket device at a low price point. The MHS-FS1 sports an ultra compact, lightweight design with a large 2.7-inch LCD screen and comes in black and white.
The Bloggie (MHS-FS1) and Bloggie Duo (MHS-FS2) cameras, both with 4GB of internal memory, will be available in March for about $150 and $170, respectively. The Bloggie 3D camera (MHS-FS3) with 8GB of internal memory will be available in April for about $250. Cyber-shot Digital Still Cameras
Sony has designed five new innovative 16.2-megapixel Cyber-shot cameras (DSC-TX100V, DSC-TX10, DSC-HX7V, DSC-WX10 and DSC-WX9) that are the world’s first compact digital still cameras to include 3D Still Image mode for taking 3D images using only one lens and imager. They also have innovative Dual Rec (record) technology for taking still photos during video capture.
The DSC-TX100V camera is the world’s first compact digital still camera to include full HD (1920 x 1080/60p) video capability for smooth playback while recording action shots such as sports.
It is also the first Cyber-shot with a 3.5-inch touch screen with OLED that provides deeper blacks and more vibrant color contrast while being thinner than most LCDs. Additionally, the DSC-WX10 camera is one of few digital still cameras to include a high speed linear autofocus feature that provides quick and more precise focusing similar to the speed of a DSLR camera.
The DSC-TX10 camera is waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and freeze-proof compliant, offers HD movie and 3D photo capture, plus Intelligent Sweep Panorama, an “Exmor R” CMOS sensor that promises crisp clear photos even in low light and a 3-inch touch screen.
With Sony’s “Exmor R” Back illuminated CMOS sensor technology, these models provide excellent low-light performance, up to 10fps burst shooting and the Intelligent Sweep Panorama™ feature. These cameras with CMOS sensors will range from $220 to $380 and will be available in March.
Some of Sony’s most affordable full-featured point-and-shoot cameras to-date, Sony today also announced new models with CCD sensors in its W, H, and T-series Cyber-shot lines including models DSC-W510, DSC-W530, DSC-W560, DSC-W570, DSC-T110 and DSC-H70.
The all new W-series models feature Sweep Panorama mode plus a bevy of Sony innovations including SteadyShot® image stabilization that reduces blur, iAuto mode that automatically optimizes camera settings plus Face Detection and Smile Shutter™ technology, making it easy and affordable to get the best shot. The DSC-W530 and DSC-W570 will be available in February and the DSC-W510 and DSC-W560 will be available in March, ranging in price from about $110 to about $180.
Sony also introduced a fresh, sleek addition to its world-class all-touch-screen T-series cameras (DSC-T110) that combine the must-have ultra slim design factor with all the cutting-edge features the in-crowd demands.
Starting with the entry-level DSC-T110, the T-models feature a 3-inch LCD touch screen, Sweep Panorama mode and 720p HD movie capture. The DSC-T110 camera will be available in March for about $220.
Sony also introduced a new 10x optical zoom Cyber-shot camera (DSC-H70). With a 16-megapixel CCD sensor, it has the innovative Sweep Panorama™ feature, 720p HD movie recording, Optical SteadyShot™ and a 25mm wide lens. The DSC-H70 will be available in March for about $230.

The new VBD-MA1 model has a 2.7-inch color LCD screen for previewing video or up to six digital photos at a time, and its overall size is almost 20 percent slimmer than the current model (VRD-MC6).

Smile / Blink Detection
Photos are all too often spoiled by people blinking or grimacing. Smile Detection works with Fujifilm’s highly-acclaimed Face Detection technology to detect smiles on faces – it will not take a picture until it detects a smile, so you’re guaranteed happy shots! Another feature is Blink Detection which warns you if you have captured an image with people blinking, so you can re-shoot if necessary.
Facebook and You Tube Easy Web Upload
The new JX-Series cameras offer an innovative function called ‘Easy Web Upload’ that allows you to sort through your photos on-camera and decide which ones to upload to Facebook or You Tube. • Tracking Auto Focus (AF): Tracks fast moving subjects so they don’t escape from the frame in a blur. Subjects will be tracked automatically for as long as it is kept in the frame and the shutter is half-pressed; when users fully press the shutter button your subject will be in the centre of the photo in perfect focus.
• Motion Panorama Mode: Automatically stitches up to three shots to create a panoramic picture
• Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO): This mode intelligently identifies the scene type and necessary shooting conditions to optimize picture perfect potential.
• Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal: To provide perfectly exposed and focused portrait shots, the cameras are fitted with Fujifilm’s latest Face Detection technology which is able to track up to 10 faces simultaneously. The system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.

This smart, portable point-and-shoot camera offers incredible new features that let you capture it all.
The value begins with an impressive feature set that includes: 14 MP, 5x wide-angle optical zoom lens, 720p HD video capture, and a large 3.0-inch LCD to capture and review your images. Add pocketable portability, Digital Image Stabilization, AF Tracking, and the shot-enhancing Magic Art Filters. Top this combination off with an affordable price point ($139.99) and you have a multi-function camera in a slim body that far surpasses other models in its class.
High-Definition with High Impact: 720p HD Video
A picture is worth a thousand words. So what do 30 frames per second say when shot in gorgeous HD? Extend your creativity with the option of capturing the action as it happens and seeing it unfold all over again – on your television screen or on YouTube®. The VG-120 shoots gorgeous 720p HD making every day a movie day. Playback is also a breeze. Gone are the days of friends and family huddling around a tiny LCD to see the pictures you just snapped.
See the Whole Picture on an Extra-Large 3.0-inch LCD Display
Composing your shot has never been easier. With an extra-large, 3.0” display, composing that perfect shot is a breeze. See what you’ve been missing with smaller displays! This large, crisp 230,400-dot LCD makes it a pleasure to share shots on the spot with family and friends.
Frame Your Work Before You Frame Your Work: 14 Megapixels and 5x Wide Zoom
Forget post-edits with the VG-120. Simply zoom in and crop right in the camera to frame your shot perfectly the first time. With a 26mm wide-angle lens and 5x zoom, get closer to the action than ever before. 14-megapixels ensures that each shot will look beautiful, even when printed poster-size.
Express Your Inner Artist with Magic Filters
The VG-120 is equipped with in-camera Magic Filters that enable users to enhance and customize images as they’re being captured. Have more fun and flexibility without expensive and time-consuming computer software.
The Magic Filters include:
- Pop Art – enhance and saturate colors to create vivid, high-impact pictures that express the joyful, lighthearted feeling of the Pop Art style of the 1960s;
- Pin Hole – reduce the peripheral brightness of an image as though it were shot through a pin hole, connecting the viewer intimately with the subject at the center;
- Fish-Eye – emulate the wide-angle of a fish-eye effect lens by taking extremely wide, hemispherical images and magnifying the center of the frame;
- Soft Focus - encloses the foreground of an image in gentle, pastel colors with a soft, elegant focus; similar to effects achieved in a studio.
- Drawing – turn your image into a sketch outline for children to color.
- New! Sparkle – shoot photos with the luxurious feel of added twinkling lights; and
- New! Punk – create two-tone images full of rock and roll spirit.
The VG-120 features Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) to capture crisp, clear pictures. By boosting the camera’s ISO sensitivity and shutter speed, DIS freezes the action and provides virtually blur-free images, even when you or your subject is moving.
Easier Group Shots with Face Detection!
Wedding, birthday and family reunion group shots have never been easier with Face Detection. The VG-120 detects up to 16 faces within the frame and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure to capture sharp, brilliant portraits and group shots.
Intelligent Auto Thinks for You
With the Intelligent Auto Mode in the VG-120, your camera knows and it automatically identifies what you are shooting (i.e., Portrait, Night + Portrait, Landscape, Macro and Sports) and adjusts the camera’s settings to capture the best quality results. Anyone has the ability to jump into this quick and hassle-free feature that does the thinking for them and produces incredible images.
Lock Onto the Action with AF Tracking
AF Tracking technology locks on your fast-moving subject and continuously adjusts focus and brightness. This enables you to keep fast-moving, unpredictable subjects like small children and pets in focus for the perfect shot.
Perfect Fix In-Camera Editing
Olympus’ Perfect Fix feature offers quick solutions for unanticipated image quality issues, which may be caused by several adverse conditions. Lighting Fix can be used to adjust any underexposed areas and Red-Eye Fix can be used to reduce the effects of red-eye sometimes caused by a direct flash. Additional in-camera editing functions can be quickly accessed right in the camera by the touch of a button; features available include resizing and trimming.
High-Quality Stylish Cameras in a Range of Colors
Your creativity is not limited to just what’s in the camera. The VG-120 will be available in three colors - silver, black, and red - to suit anyone’s style.
Sharing is Caring: SD Compatibility
With SD compatibility, the VG-120 allows users to share their work easily through SD-compatible computers, digital picture frames and HDTVs.
OLYMPUS [ib] Software Makes it Even Easier to Share and Print Your Photos
All Olympus digital compact cameras now offer the new OLYMPUS [ib] photo organizing and editing software. It includes photography workflow, browsing, editing and unique photo organizing functions. You can organize photos by person with automatic face-recognition technology, by place with a map-tagging function, or by event. All information will be tagged in each photo’s data. You can then easily upload images to the integrated online service, [ib on the net], to share and backup photos, as well as order prints and photo merchandise. The name [ib] stands for image bridge, because the software is designed to create a bridge to help you get images from your camera to services where you can do more with your photos.
Availability
The Olympus VG-120 will be available in January 2011. It will ship with a Lithium Ion Battery, USB Cable, Audio/Video Cable, Wrist Strap, Instruction Manual, Warranty Card and OLYMPUS [ib] software.

Shutterstock Gives the Lasting Gift of Clean Water to Arid Regions in Ethiopia
Wells funded by Shutterstock bring safe drinking water to hundreds of men, women and children
New York, December 8, 2010 – Shutterstock, the leading global provider of stock images and stock footage by subscription, has made a lasting difference in the lives of hundreds of men, women and children in Northern Ethiopia by providing the life-changing gift of clean, safe drinking water for decades to come.
New Shutterstock-funded wells throughout the arid Amhara region mean that men such as Muche Alemu no longer have to experience the pain of watching family members, including his own daughter, die from waterborne diseases, which claim the lives of 4,500 children on average worldwide each day. Before Shutterstock’s well came to Alemu’s village of Casie Chibechiba, he and his family had to walk for hours to a stagnant, murky pond to collect drinking water.
“Water was always our biggest fear because it made our village sick, and there was nothing we could do,” said Alemu. “But now, I do not worry anymore. We have no more sickness from water, no more children dying because they cannot find clean water to drink.”
Alemu’s story is the result of Shutterstock’s yearlong partnership with charity: water, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries. To date, Shutterstock’s wells have helped approximately 1,500 people like Alemu in six villages throughout the drought-ridden Amhara region of Northern Ethiopia.
“As a global, socially responsible company, it is important for us to support sustainable projects that make a real difference in the lives of people around the world,” said Jon Oringer, founder and CEO of Shutterstock. “As we look toward the holiday season, we encourage our community of buyers and contributors to extend their generosity to those who need it most.”

Introducing the 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008) , The World's Lightest, Smallest 15x Zoom*1, with Tamron's First PZD (Piezo Drive)*2 AF
December 9, 2010, Saitama, Japan - Morio Ono, President and CEO of Tamron Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of optical equipment, announced the release of yet another groundbreaking lens: the world's most compact, lightweight lens with a 15x zoom ratio*1, featuring a 62mm filter diameter, VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization and Tamron's first standing wave ultrasonic motor system for SLR lenses, PZD (Piezo Drive) *2. The 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008) digital SLR ultra-high-power zoom lens for Canon and Nikon mounts will be released in Japan on December 20, 2010, with the development of a Sony*3 compatible mount at a later date.
The 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008) (referred to below as 18-270mm Di II VC PZD) is an astonishingly light, compact ultra-high-power zoom lens with a filter diameter of 62mm. Weighing in at 450g, this new all-in-one zoom lens is equipped with an AF unit driven by Tamron's new PZD (Piezo Drive)*2, an ultrasonic motor that delivers faster and quieter focusing when the autofocus is engaged.
The 18-270mm Di II VC PZD, will be easy to use and highly portable - a high-power zoom that will offer the user the versatility to shoot in a variety of situations. Its wide zoom range of 18-270mm positions the lens as an all-purpose workhorse for any photographic situation.
Product Features
1. The 18-270mm Di II VC PZD boasts the world's highest zoom range at 15x magnification for a lens with its compact size and light weight*1, with the added value of Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization. At 450g, measuring 88mm in length (from mount face to the tip of the lens), and 74.4mm in diameter with a filter diameter of 62mm, it's a compact and easy-to-carry lens.
2. Silent, high-speed autofocus in a compact lens due to the incorporation of Tamron's new PZD (Piezo Drive) *2 autofocus technology.
3. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.49m throughout the zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8.
Di II (Digitally integrated design): Di II lenses are for exclusive use with digital SLR cameras (with APS-C size sensors), with a suitably optimized optical design. These lenses cannot be used with digital SLR cameras with an image sensor larger than APS-C size, or 35mm film SLR cameras.
* *1 For SLR camera high-zoom-ratio lenses with 15x magnification capability. Current as of December 2010. (Source: Tamron).
* *2 PZD (Piezo Drive) is a standing wave ultrasonic motor system developed by Tamron. The motor is faster and quieter than DC motors when the AF drive is operated, and compared with ring type ultrasonic motors, it has an actuator that facilitates lens design and reduced size.
* *3The Sony mount is not equipped with the VC image stabilization mechanism, as the body of Sony’s digital SLR cameras has a built-in image stabilization function. Consequently, the lens with a Sony mount is referred to as the 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II PZD and does not include the VC description.
PZD (Piezo Drive)
Ultrasonic motors are divided into two categories depending on the principle that generates the energy to move the drive: traveling wave motors and standing wave motors. Traveling wave motors include the ring type ultrasonic motor used in the recently launched 70-300mm F/4-5.6 VC USD as well as other lenses, but this lens employs a newer technology, the PZD (Piezo Drive), which functions on the standing wave principle.
A standing wave ultrasonic motor utilizes high-frequency voltage to extend and turn the piezoelectric (piezoceramic) element, thus moving the entire element in a standing wave movement. The metal tip is the contact point of the element to the rotor, and moves in an elliptic motion from the swiveling motion of the moving element, and the friction from this motion turns the rotor. Standing wave ultrasonic motors have the distinct advantage of being smaller than their traveling wave counterparts, and therefore allow a more compact SLR lens size.
VC (Vibration Compensation)
Tamron's VC mechanism employs a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three steel balls. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the steel balls, achieving smooth movement with little friction. This provides a stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking performance that eliminates the blur from handheld shots for cleaner, crisper shots.
New VC mechanism (moving coil method)
Tamron's original VC image stabilization mechanism utilized a moving magnet system whereby a heavy magnet was positioned near the moving VC lens element. In the new VC unit the positions of the magnet and the coil are reversed, because of this the VC optical lens element is attached to the coil. The new VC mechanism employs a moving coil mechanism with a lightweight coil, and the lighter coil reduces the load on the drive system. Thus, the lighter, more compact new VC unit contributes to the lens's overall light weight and compact size.
Notice of Classification Code Change for Nikon Mounts
Since the introduction by Tamron of the first Nikon mount lens featuring an internal AF motor, the AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC (Model A20), all Nikon mount lenses with the internal AF motor had used the classification code "N II". Lenses using a coupler system* without an internal AF motor were designated as "N". As future lens introductions for Nikon will have the internal AF motor as a standard feature, Tamron has decided to simplify the designation and consolidate all Nikon mount lenses as "N", eliminating the "N II" designation for future models. This classification code change will be effective from the 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008).
The "N" classification lenses with coupler systems are: AF 55-200mm F/4-5.6 Di II (Model A15); AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di (Model A061); SP AF200-500mm F/5.6-6.3 Di (Model A08); and SP AF180mm F/3.5 Di (Model B01).
*Coupler system refers to a system that uses a shaft to harness the AF motor built into the camera body to operate the lens.
The 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008) (referred to below as 18-270mm Di II VC PZD) is an astonishingly light, compact ultra-high-power zoom lens with a filter diameter of 62mm.

BenVista releases PhotoZoom Pro 4
ARNHEM, December 6, 2010 – Today BenVista announced the release of their new software for digital image resizing PhotoZoom Pro 4, which as of now is available for both Windows and Mac platforms.
The PhotoZoom series is specialized in enlarging (and downsizing) digital images while preserving original quality, for which it uses BenVista's patented, award-winning S-Spline technologies.
With PhotoZoom Pro 4, BenVista aims to tackle an additional challenge: creating acceptable image enlargements based on mediocre or even low quality originals.
Says D.S. Schoolwerth, CEO at BenVista: "Ideally, you always have high quality originals to work with. But reality can be different. What if all you have is a low-res original full of noise? And what if a client insists on working with a low quality image from the Web, that suffered quality loss due to JPEG compression? Enlarging such images usually isn't a very good idea:
distortions will become disturbingly visible. Or when you apply repair filters prior to resizing the image, the end result often looks blurry and artificial."
With PhotoZoom Pro 4, BenVista claims to offer a spectacular new solution to this problem.
Schoolwerth: "We have developed a technology that combines perfectly with our S-Spline Max resize method. Not only it cleans up JPEG compression artifacts and noise, the image will also look perfectly sharp and true to nature after enlargement."
Another major new feature of PhotoZoom Pro 4 is 64-bit support. With the increasing popularity of 64-bit versions of Windows, Mac OS X, and Photoshop in mind, PhotoZoom Pro 4 now fully supports 64-bit environments, both as a stand-alone application and as a Photoshop plug-in.
Other improvements are additional fine-tuning options, new pre-defined settings for different types of images, and additional presets for common print and pixel sizes.
Besides PhotoZoom Pro 4, BenVista also released PhotoZoom Classic 4 today. Although the Classic version misses some of the Pro version's features, it too creates outstanding image enlargements thanks to its S-Spline XL image resize technology. Also, the price of the Classic version is significantly lower, allowing the PhotoZoom series to reach a wider public.
Demo versions of PhotoZoom Pro 4 and PhotoZoom Classic 4 can be downloaded directly from the BenVista website: www.benvista.com. Various upgrade options are available.
