2009 PDN Photo Annual Honors Hasselblad Master

Annual’s "Corporate Design/Photo Products" Section Opens with August Bradley’s Work

PDN magazine presents its selection of the year's best photography in its Photo Annual. The opening piece in the 2009 PDN Photo Annual’s "Corporate Design/Photo Products" category showcases the work of Hasselblad photographer August Bradley - right from the pages of the 2008 Hasselblad Masters Book.

Every year Hasselblad chooses 10 of the world’s best photographers from 10 photo specialties for its Masters program. The categories are: Architectural, Editorial, Fashion/Beauty, Fine Art, General, Landscapes/Nature, Upcoming, Portrait, Products, and Wedding/Social. In addition to Bradley being featured in the 2008 Hasselblad Masters Book, one of his photos graced the cover.

A short documentary about Bradley and his contributions to the Hasselblad Masters Book, was produced by “fashion cinema” director Robertino Fonseca. As the video opens, Bradley creates a context for the extraordinary images and photo shoot we are about to see, explaining, “My favorite images tend to have an almost haunted quality to them, something unfamiliar, at the same time, they are accessible. There’s an emotional element you can really connect with, but then again, they take you a little bit further than what’s comfortable or what’s known.”

The 2009 Masters Awards Contest is now closed for submissions. More than 2000 photographers uploaded over 10,000 images. Watch this site for information regarding the voting process for the 2009 Masters Awards and the opening of submissions for the upcoming 2010 Masters Awards.
