13/04/2009 For photographers whose work involves extreme detail and very special lighting conditions, Hasselblad’s Phocus 1.1.3 software for Mac features a new Reproduction tool.
This gives users a linear ‘reproduction mode’ response curve, the option to work with a local input profile, and the means for exporting raw image files to generate local input profiles. The new software also features a disclosure triangle at the bottom right of the Phocus viewer, which offers the choice of color read-out as RGB, LAB, or CMYK.
These functions were added after recommendations from museums that use Hasselblad products for their high-end reproductions. These fine art customers have all chosen to work with Hasselblad’s multi-shot products because of the cameras’ unique capabilities for color accuracy and detail reproduction. Among those now using Hasselblad camera systems are the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Trinity College in Dublin, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Vatican in Rome, and the National Gallery of Oslo.
For customers working with high-volume production or via a network, we have added a simple hot-folder concept. An active folder becomes ‘hot’ by using the Export New Images Automatically option in the File menu. Any file placed in this folder is processed automatically, using the current Export settings.
Hasselblad’s tilt/shift product, the HTS 1.5 adapter, is fully supported by Phocus 1.1.3, using Hasselblad’s DAC digital lens correction to deliver an amazing degree of image perfection even when working with extensive movements.
Noteworthy is the ability to use Phocus for local upgrading of both camera and digital capture firmware.

For photographers using Hasselblad cameras for aerial photography or industrial applications, a new Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available with Phocus 1.0.2 Windows. The SDK allows a Windows application to prompt Phocus to capture images with given settings (exposure time, aperture, ISO, etc.). The resulting files are stored wherever the Windows application directs them.
