Blend Images Launches Rights-Managed Image Collection

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Blend Images, the world’s leading multiethnic stock photography agency, announced today it has launched a new rights-managed image collection, strengthening their commercial offering at blendimages.com.

The Blend Images rights-managed collection launches with 3,000 images, featuring powerful photos from the industry’s top photographers. The collection focuses on multiethnic lifestyle and business imagery with conceptual, highly stylized, contemporary images that offer high production value and premium quality. New images will continue to be released each month.

“The quality of this collection and caliber of photographers were key elements to achieving the highest standards,” said Sarah Fix, Creative Director at Blend Images. “We are proud to bring you the work from a variety of talented photographers including Patrik Giardino, Stewart Cohen, and Ronnie Kaufman.”

The rights-managed licensing model offers usage-based pricing combined with rights tracking and exclusivity options. Clients can control the amount of exclusivity, within a specific industry, territory, or time period, ensuring the image is not used by a competitor or another advertiser.

PPA Announces Grass Roots Efforts to Help Photographers During Tough Economic Times

Many Americans, including professional photographers, most of whom are self-employed, are feeling the effects of current economic tough times. And many photographers fear that if they don't get some relief fast, their businesses will suffer irreparable damage.

Throughout its nearly 130-year history, Professional Photographers of America (PPA) has provided business-critical resources to professional photographers. Today PPA, together with its long-standing Industry Advisory Committee, announced a renewed commitment to giving all photographers the help they need to combat economic challenges during the next several years. New programs and resources will be rolled out regularly, giving photographers tools and information to make a real difference in the bottom line of their businesses.

Many of the ideas for helping photographers navigate difficult times come from PPA's Industry Advisory Committee, which has met at least twice a year for decades, collaborating with PPA on ways it can help make photographers successful. In fact, the committee met again this weekend, praising PPA for its regular work on photographers' behalf in the areas of health care reform and copyright protection.

"It's wonderful what PPA is doing to lobby on Capitol Hill to secure health care benefits for photographers," adds Kevin Casey, CEO of Collages.net and member of PPA's Industry Advisory Committee. "This is an important issue that affects the daily life of photographers, and it's important that we are there trying to solve serious issues, rather than just talking about them."

"Our Industry Advisory Committee has been such an important part of our advocacy efforts. They care about photographers and are serious partners in helping us get through these difficult times. We have serious situations, and that means expending serious resources, including substantial financial resources, to make a difference," explains David Trust, PPA's CEO. "Some groups are out there talking, but this takes a lot more than talk - it requires real action, which PPA is already taking."

Photographers are urged to take advantage of the programs and resources available now, only through PPA, the world's largest non-profit association for professional photographers:

* PPA's Indemnification Trust: protection when things go wrong on assignment.
* Studio Management Services: providing business education and financial guidance.
* PPA's Financial Benchmark Survey: providing the data that defines a successful business.
* Full-time Copyright & Government Affairs Staff: fighting for photographers on copyright and small business issues.
* And more

Professional Photographers of America (PPA), a worldwide non-profit association, exists to assist its 22,000 members and the photographic industry in achieving their professional, artistic and fraternal goals; to promote public awareness of the profession; and to advance the making of images in all of its disciplines as an art, a science, and a visual recorder of history. Ricoh announces the CX1

7.1x Optical wide-angle zoom digital camera with maximum dynamic range equivalent to 12 EV

Tokyo, Japan, February 19, 2009—Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president and CEO: Shiro Kondo) today announced the development and release of the CX1, a new digital camera with a 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom lens (28-200 mm in 35 mm film equivalent focal length). The CX1's expanded dynamic range of 12 EV equivalent makes it possible to capture high-contrast scenes in a way not possible with earlier models.

With new image processing engine Smooth Imaging Engine IV and a new high-speed image processing CMOS sensor installed, the CX1 achieves greater image quality while at the same time expanding dynamic range with its dynamic range double shot mode.

In addition, functions such as multi-pattern auto white balance (sets white balance based on the light sources of segregated areas of the image) and multi-target AF (shoots consecutive images at seven focal distances automatically defined by the camera) enable the new CX1 to create beautiful images giving an almost naked-eye impression.

The CX1 has a large 3.0-inch 920,000-dot VGA monitor and high-speed continuous shooting functions at approximately 4 frames/second that make it even easier to enjoy photography. This is a digital camera that takes the design concept "A tool you will want to use every day" to a new level of perfection.

Main features of the new CX1

1. Greater image quality from a new image processing engine and new image sensor.
• The CX1 has the new image processing engine Smooth Imaging Engine IV and a new high-speed image processing CMOS sensor. In high-sensitivity shooting conditions, these enhancements result in greater resolution than previous models and also reduce noise without compromising color reproduction.
• The addition of a customized circuit to the image processing engine has made it possible to include a pixel output interpolation algorithm that expands the CX1's dynamic range by up to 1 EV compared to conventional methods. This reduces whiteout in high-contrast situations and recreates the beauty seen by the eye.
2. Dynamic range double shot mode for excellent reproduction of both light and dark areas.
• The transformation of the image processing engine and the image sensor has enabled the CX1 to do high-speed continuous shooting. This, in turn, has made it possible to create dynamic range double shot mode, which takes high-speed consecutive shots of two still images with different exposures and then records an image that combines the properly exposed portions of each. Expanding the dynamic range up to a maximum equivalent to 12 EV, this mode makes it possible to record images that give an almost naked-eye impression.
• It is possible to also record a normal image in addition to the expanded-dynamic-range image so you can check the results immediately after shooting.
3. The multi-pattern auto white balance function gives the optimum color reproduction when shooting subjects mixing different color temperatures.
• For scenes with both shadow and sunlight and scenes mixing flash and natural light (or fluorescent light, etc.) during flash photography, this function can define white balance to fit the light source of each segregated area of the image. This enhances image quality in people-photography situations that were difficult to shoot with the old auto white balance function.
4. High-definition 3.0-inch 920,000-dot VGA monitor.
• The large, high-resolution LCD monitor has a wide viewing angle and high contrast. The screen has a fluorine coat to prevent soiling, a hard coat to prevent scratches, and an anti-reflection coat to give greater visibility even outdoors in bright sunshine.
• The optimum fonts are used for high visibility on the VGA monitor, and greater camera operability is achieved with an enhanced setting-screen design easily readable at a glance. There is also an 81-image playback screen display function useful when checking images during playback.
• Image framing during shooting is now easier as a result of the addition of a shooting information display frame which does not superimpose shooting information over the image itself.
5. With the multi-target AF function, the camera automatically finds seven focal distances and shoots at each one in succession.
• The camera automatically decides seven focus points and does high-speed consecutive shooting of seven images while shifting the focus to each point. After shooting, you can select the image with the preferred focus. This function is effective for scenes (such as flowers) where there is a narrow range for a sharp focus.
* The consecutively shot images are recorded as a single MP file (a file format with multiple still images in a single file).
6. Enhanced high-speed continuous shooting functions catch the decisive movement of moving subjects.
• In continuous shooting mode, it is possible to do high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 4 frames/second for still images with the maximum number of pixels.
* Continuous shooting speed will vary depending on shooting conditions, card type, card condition, etc.
• The M-continuous plus shooting function does continuous shooting that saves the 30 images (30 frames/sec.) taken during the one second or so before the finger is removed from the shutter release button or the 30 images (15 frames/sec.) taken during the two seconds before. By taking your finger from the shutter release just after the decisive moment has passed, you can be sure that you caught it.
* Image size is fixed at N1728 (2M).
* The consecutively shot images are recorded as a single MP file (a file format with multiple still images in a single file).
• With ultra-high-speed continuous shooting, the CX1 shoots 120 images (120 frames/sec.) during an interval of about one second after the shutter release button is pushed, or 120 images (60 frames/sec.) during an interval of about two seconds.
* Image size is fixed at N640 (VGA).
* The consecutively shot images are recorded as a single MP file (a file format with multiple still images in a single file).
7. A 7.1x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28-200 mm focal length for 35 mm cameras) in a body optimized for ease of use as a photographic tool.
• Ricoh's original double retracting lens system has made it possible to fit a 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom lens in a body that is both easy to carry and easy to operate.
• This lens can handle a wide range of shooting situations, including powerful telephoto shots as well as wide-angle shooting of both expansive landscapes and interior scenes with limited distance between camera and subject.
8. Popular macro photography functions.
• With the macro photography functions you can get as close to the subject as 1 cm for wide-angle* and 25 cm for telephoto. *Equivalent to 32 mm focal length for 35 mm cameras
• When shooting up close in easy shooting mode, the camera will automatically switch to macro mode so you can enjoy macro photography without the inconvenience of mode switching.
9. A wide range of functions inspired by the "A tool you will want to use every day" concept.
• Electronic level utilizing an acceleration sensor.
• Image sensor shift blur reduction function to reduce hand-motion blurring.
• Face mode that automatically identifies subject faces and optimizes face focus, exposure, and white balance.
• Easy shooting mode for photographic fun with simple operations.
• Minimum shooting distance display function that shows on the monitor the minimum shooting distance, which changes depending on the zoom setting.
• Aspect ratio (vertical/horizontal ratio) 1:1 square format photography function.
• Image flag function to enable the quick display of specific images from among those in the camera.
• The ability to switch from frame to frame with the still image display remaining enlarged in playback mode.

* The "dynamic range" of a digital camera is range of light intensity that the camera is able to process.
* The term "MP file" used in this document refers to "Extended MP files" conforming to the "multi-picture format" standardized by the CIPA. (The file extension is MPO.) LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH

With the LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH., Leica Camera AG, Solms, expands their range of short focal-length lenses for the Leica M System, adding another compact wide-angle lens. This newly developed lens is characterized by its outstanding image quality and compact size. Another addition to the Leica rangefinder system accessories range is a new finder, the LEICA BRIGHT LINE FINDER M 18 mm.

The LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH. is ideal for a wide range of applications – from expansive reportage images to landscapes and architectural photography. When used on digital Leica M models, the LEICA M8 and LEICA M8.2, the slightly smaller format of the sensor increases the effective focal length to the 35 mm format equivalent of 24 mm.

This means that the new lens is also a particularly practical and useful wide-angle lens for digital M photography. In addition, the lens can also be used on all analog Leica M camera models, and it’s extremely short focal length of 18 mm opens up numerous new opportunities for composition and creative expression.

The fundamental parameters of vignetting and distortion traditionally encountered in super-wide-angle lenses have been effectively corrected in the case of the LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH., so that they play no role at all in practice. This results in extremely sharp, crystal-clear and uniformly exposed images from corner to corner. Due to the outstanding contrast and reproduction of details, the initial aperture of 3.8 can be used without any limitations.

Even wide open, the depth of field extends from infinity to 3.93 feet. Stopping down is only necessary as a means to further increase the depth of field.

The LEICA ELMAR-M 1:3.8/18 mm ASPH. is constructed with eight lenses in seven groups. Due to the use of one aspherical element, aberrations were reduced to a minimum.

The LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH. also features a patented, screw-on rectangular lens hood that contributes to its compact size. The lens will be available at authorized Leica dealers in March 2009.

A matching LEICA BRIGHT LINE FINDER M 18 mm is also available for the new LEICA SUPER-ELMAR-M 18 mm f/ 3.8 ASPH. lens. Used in conjunction with the new lens, it highlights the precise framing of the field of view and is distinguished by its vibrant, high-contrast image. Due to a concave mirror in the optics (hence the term ‘mirror viewfinder’), part of the incoming light is used to brightly illuminate the frame for the field of view – in the same way as in the viewfinder of Leica M cameras.

The finder has parallax compensation markings for close-up distances below 6.6 feet, yet also has markings for the slightly smaller image field of LEICA M8 models. It is, therefore, equally suitable for use with film (24 x 36 mm) and for digital photography (18 x 27 mm).

The entire optical system of the finder has a high-quality multi-layer coating to guarantee optimal viewing under all conditions. Its high-quality metal body is finished in the classic look of its predecessors of the fifties and sixties, but are milled from solid brass with the latest technology, and then finished in silver-chrome or black paint to match the cameras. The eyepiece is rubberized to reliably protect eyeglasses against scratching.

Getty Images Introduces New “Grants for Good” Program

Two New Grants Expand Program and Support Photographers’ Work With Non-Profits

SEATTLE & NEW YORK, February 19, 2009 - Getty Images, Inc., the world’s leading creator and distributor of visual content and other digital media, today announced an expansion of its photographer grant program to involve the creative community, whose work often benefits the non-profit sector. Getty Images Grants for Good will award two photographers $15,000 each to cover costs associated with creating compelling imagery to raise awareness about the issues and work of a non-profit they admire.

“The growth of our grant program is a testament to Getty Images’ ongoing commitment to making tangible, positive contributions in the world through the power of imagery,” said Andrew Saunders, vice president of imagery at Getty Images. “These grants enable more photographers to produce extraordinary imagery for important causes, supporting non-profits, NGO’s, professional associations and charities.”

Getty Images is bringing together a distinguished panel of industry experts to judge the grant applications. The panel currently consists of Curator Christopher Phillips, International Center of Photography, and Publisher and Editor Lesley Martin, Aperture Foundation.

The two grant recipients will be announced at the 2009 Cannes Advertising Festival in June. In addition to the cash prize, the winning photographers will have the option to collaborate with Getty Images’ team of art directors, photo editors and producers during the execution of their project. The photographers’ resulting work will be showcased on gettyimages.com and will be used by the non-profit to develop more powerful visual communications.

“Photographers are encouraged to approach their grant project with a high level of creativity and collaboration with the non-profit and their creative agency,” said Saunders. ”It also provides photographers with tremendous flexibility in their donation to the non-profit. Photographers can choose to have either all or a portion of the funding directed to the designated charity if they wish to contribute their own time or resources to the project.”

Grants for Good applications are due April 15, 2009. To apply, photographers are asked to submit a short written proposal outlining the shoot plan, a supporting portfolio of work, their CV/resume, a profile of the non-profit with whom they will partner, and a statement of the organization’s support for the application. All materials are to be submitted digitally through the new Getty Images Grants website, www.gettyimages.com/grants.

Getty Images Grants Program was first established in 2004 with Grants for Editorial Photography, awarding five a year of $20,000 each to fund visionary new work by established and rising photojournalists. Since its inception, 20 photojournalists have been empowered to bring compelling news stories to light, while improving their craft with personally motivated assignments. In 2009, Getty Images is pleased to expand its program with Grants for Good, which enables photographers to produce powerful new imagery for the greater good.

Making BAPLA fit for a 21st Century Recession

UK, FEBRUARY 2009 - The British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies is changing, and has today announced to members its plans to ‘evolve’ and reflect the needs of the current economic climate and to build on its lobbying presence. .

It has revealed a new set of objectives, at the heart of which is an attempt to attract more picture buyers to the BAPLA membership - and to seek and develop as many new revenue making opportunities as it can for members.

BAPLA’s new Executive Director Simon Cliffe replaced former CEO Linda Royles who resigned last year. Simon said: “The business model has changed. Actually, the business model is changing every day, and with that change comes fear but also opportunity and we need to ensure it’s the latter that BAPLA concentrates on. We can’t give members business, but we can do everything within our resources to help them help themselves develop more revenue opportunities.”

BAPLA is also working on plans to develop both its UK and international membership. It currently represents nearly 400 picture libraries with most coming from the UK and a handful from overseas.

Simon said: “We have to grow our membership and we have to make sure a decent percentage of that growth is international. A bigger and more diverse membership is critical for three reasons. Firstly, we can use it to encourage and attract more picture buyers – they will come to us through our activity, our website and the BAPLA Picture Buyers’ Fair. Secondly, representing a much broader membership makes for a much louder and a much braver voice on the lobbying stage. Potential changes to UK copyright laws and the Orphan Works debate are just two issues that could have a huge impact on our industry if we’re not heard. And whilst our focus is on helping our members unlock much needed revenue where possible – we absolutely have to build on the excellent work of Linda Royles who has already done so much for this industry. The third reason for expanding is the most obvious – it adds to our limited reserves so we can re-invest in our membership activity”

Part of BAPLA’s new plans involve the launch of a new Training Academy. The Training Academy is the umbrella for a number of courses being developed and executed by BAPLA. The first training session, “Turning your Business Global” is taking bookings now. Designed for the smaller members who’ve yet to break into the international market, the course will offer a mixture of group learning but more importantly bespoke one-to-one consultancy with our panel of industry and government experts. The experts will be offering advice on everything from relevant agents to target, available funding, marketing and international distribution.

Plans are also being developed for BAPLA’s Picture Buyers Fair. BAPLA Chairman Paul Brown said: “PBF 2009 is getting the same treatment as the rest of our activity, so we are working hard to ensure new image buyers are in attendance especially from sectors which are particularly relevant to growing members’ business. We are still taking bookings for exhibition stands and full details on booking both stands and attendance are available on our website. PBF 2010 will be different though. We will shortly be launching a consultation with members and other key stake-holders focussing on the 2010 event to create a new, relevant and innovative Picture Buyers’ Fair to take us into the next decade.”

With changes to membership benefits, BAPLA is aiming to concentrate on three areas; business support, business opportunities and increasing lobbying. BAPLA has invested in a new website referral system with the aim of pushing online traffic direct to the relevant members and the popular jobs page has been built upon with the inclusion of a new job seekers database. Plans are also being worked on to drastically improve communications for members with international agents and photographers.

COLOR, STYLE AND PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTISE INSPIRE CANON'S NEW 2009 POWERSHOT LINE-UP

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., February 17, 2009 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today introduced 10 new PowerShot cameras that offer an array of photographic options for the entry-level consumer right up to the photo enthusiast. Whether on a family vacation, swimming in an ocean or out for a night on the town, the new line-up of PowerShot digital cameras enable consumers to customize their photographic experience to their personality with color, style and features galore.

Most PowerShot cameras for 2009 feature Canon's exclusive DIGIC 4 Image Processor, with proprietary technology which accounts for the camera's higher performance levels, including improved signal processing speed and higher image quality. This new chip paves the way for a host of features including Canon's new Smart AUTO. Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper camera settings based on the specific shooting conditions of each scene, ensuring that all images are accurately focused, exposed, stabilized and white-balanced before the shutter is even pressed. Using data derived from Canon's Optical Image Stabilization, Genuine Face Detection and Motion Detection Technologies, Smart AUTO automatically adjusts a multitude of settings including brightness and hue, during various shooting situations. Another enhancement available with select PowerShot models is Blink Detection Technology, which uses the Face Detection function to display an icon after shooting with a warning that someone's eyes were closed (such as when blinking) during shooting. Unlike other systems which prevent users from taking a photo, Canon's Blink Detection Technology lets users know immediately whether there's any need to reshoot the image, thus providing a far more intuitive experience.

A third technological advancement with select PowerShot cameras is Active Display, which is used for quickly switching between images during playback. Instead of culling through a long line of images, via a control dial, Active Display advances pictures simply with a gentle shake of the wrist, making the viewing and sharing of pictures more fun and enjoyable.

"The power of the Canon PowerShot series is its ability to enhance consumers' enjoyment of photography through its unique combination of ease-of-use, affordability, and personalization," said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "We are excited about this year's PowerShot line-up because Canon's cameras are loaded with advanced technologies and design options, thus enabling consumers to have the ultimate photographic experience."

CANON U.S.A. EXPANDS ITS LENS PORTFOLIO WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF TWO NEW WIDE-ANGLE TILT-SHIFT LENSES

Canon Introduces the New TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and the TS-E 17mm f/4L Tilt-Shift Lenses

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., February 17, 2009 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging and optics, today introduced two new Tilt-Shift lenses, the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and the TS-E 17mm f/4L. These two new L series lenses expand the Company's extensive lens line-up of TS-E lenses giving photographers creative control over perspective and depth of field in their images. Both the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and the TS-E 17mm f/4L are specialty lenses ideal for landscape and architectural photography and are compatible with all Canon EOS system single lens reflex cameras1. The TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, a replacement for Canon's TS-E 24mm f/3.5L introduced in 1991, has significantly improved operability with low distortion when photographing buildings, consistent image quality throughout the image and reduced chromatic aberration when shooting at ultra-wide angles. The TS-E 17mm f/4L is the world's shortest focal length Tilt-Shift lens with full-frame 35mm coverage.

"These two new lenses are Canon's answer to photographers who have requested wider angle Tilt-Shift lenses, with the new TS-E 24mm for wide angles and the all new TS-E 17mm for ultra-wide angles. We continually seek to expand our optics portfolio to meet the demands of our photographers to ensure that they have the best tools available to capture some of the most stunning images on the planet," stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.

An innovative feature on both the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and the TS-E 17mm f/4L lenses is Canon's new TS Revolving System. This feature allows tilting and shifting lens movements to be adjusted in parallel or at right angles to each other, with detents at 45˚ intervals. Additionally, once the TS Revolving System has been set, the orientation of the entire lens can be rotated freely through a range of ±90˚, with detents at 30˚ intervals. The amount of tilt is ±8.5˚ for the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II and ±6.5˚ for the TS-E 17mm f/4L. The amount of shift is ±12mm for both lenses. The image circle diameter for both lenses is an impressive 67.2mm. (The diagonal measurement of the full-frame 35mm format is only 43.2mm.)

The high-precision glass molded aspherical and UD glass lens elements and accurate aspherical GMo along with a large diameter in new TS-E lenses deliver outstanding image quality, high resolution and super-low distortion to all edges of the image. Each lens incorporates a new type of anti-reflection coating, Canon's SubWavelength structure Coating (SWC) that continuously changes the refractive index on the lens surface via wedge-shaped structures more minute than wavelength of visible light. Canon's SWC helps minimize flare and ghosting caused by bright light from large angles of incidence. The new TS-E lenses are the 2nd and 3rd Canon EF series lenses with SWC, following the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM that was introduced in 2008.

Pricing and Availability
The TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II is expected to ship in May for an estimated retail price of $2,199.00*. The TS-E 17mm f/4L is expected to ship in May for an estimated retail price of $2,499.00*.

NEW STUDIO SOLUTION SOFTWARE FROM CANON U.S.A. PROVIDES AUTOMATED WORKFLOW FOR PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIOS FROM CAPTURE TO REVENUE

New Canon Software Automates Photography Processes from Administrative Filing to Image Processing In One Simple Solution

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., February 17, 2009 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging technology, today announced a new and exciting software product, Studio Solution software for professional photographic studio owners. Utilizing Canon's core imaging and printing technologies, new Studio Solution software, features a fully automatic workflow to simplify studio operations while maintaining the highest degree of image quality. Through electronic input and filing, Studio Solution software will help consolidate scheduling, contracting, invoicing, image capture, ordering, minor retouching and printing into a single program.

As a complete workflow automation system, Canon's Studio Solution software allows for greater staffing efficiencies with improved turnaround time, for increased profitability. Designed to integrate with Canon EOS cameras, imagePROGRAF and PIXMA Pro printers, Canon's Studio Solution software ensures studio owners and operators are maximizing their time and equipment.

The most integral software feature is Canon's core image processing, providing automatic color management, image resizing and minor image re-touching for stunning prints with minimal labor. These automatic processes help reduce the need for timely and expensive image editing, allowing for greater margins and uptime in any Canon-equipped photo studio. Once the final job is printed through the software, an invoice is automatically generated, complete with order details and customer information, without additional manual input.

Canon U.S.A. is offering a flexible support and training program along with Studio Solution software with classroom-type training as well as on-site and online training programs. Canon will be announcing a program which will enhance the marketability of studios that use Canon EOS digital cameras, Pixma Pro and iPF printers, Studio Solution software and genuine ink and media.

‘Life-Proof’ FinePix Z33WP Captures Treasured Moments Anytime, Anywhere, and in Any Conditions

Valhalla, N.Y., February 17, 2009 – Expanding the popular Z-series digital cameras for young-at-heart, trend-savvy consumers, FUJIFILM U.S.A., Inc. delivers flexible functionality and form to active and hip users with the launch of the FinePix Z33WP digital camera. Perfect for budding photographers who want to experience life to the fullest, the FinePix Z33WP enables users to capture those precious moments, regardless of the conditions and share them easily with their extended network of friends and family members.

Life-Proof
The 10-Megapixel FinePix Z33WP is available in three striking colors – green, pink and black – and is ready for any adventure including underwater activity up to approximately 10 feet (3M)! A 2.7”, 230,000 dots resolution LCD screen – the largest of any Z-series camera yet – and Fujinon 3x Optical Zoom lens allows for a clearer view of those not-to-be-missed moments on the beach, on the ski slopes, hiking in the mountains or boating at the lake. It’s also perfect for everyday activities in the rain, the pool or any other place you might think twice about taking a conventional digital camera.

Intelligent Scene Recognition
Adding ease to outdoor navigation, the FinePix Z33WP is equipped with a new SR Auto (Automatic Scene Recognition) mode that enables the camera to intelligently recognize six types of scenes automatically. For each picture taken in this mode, the Z33WP will optimize the ideal exposure, focus, white balance and ISO for the scene to ensure the best quality picture is captured with ease. In addition, Fujifilm’s Picture Stabilization is powered by high sensitivity for faster shutter and operational speeds to help reduce camera shake, keeping real life moments as true to form as possible.

Easy Sharing
The family-friendly Z33WP also features Fujifilm’s handy Blog Mode which allows for easier sharing with friends and family members. The Blog mode automatically resizes a photo to a standard 640x480 pixels (VGA) or 320x240 pixels (QVGA) image size and enables 12 in-camera editing features such as Zooming, Miniature effect, Illustration and Painting, cutting the need for extra time with home editing.

In addition to these innovations, the FinePix Z33WP is loaded with the following handy features:
• Face Detection Technology: Operating in tandem with automatic red-eye removal, the FinePix Z33WP identifies up to 10 human faces in a scene, and sets the correct focus and exposure, regardless of where subjects are located within the frame.
• Automatic Red Eye Removal accents the aforementioned features by lending an extra touch to that group shot. The Z33WP automatically checks for red eye and self-corrects it in each and every person in the photo, saving time on post-editing.
• Couple and Group Timer Modes: Working in conjunction with Face Detection technology detects two faces in ‘Couple Timer Mode’ and up to four faces in ‘Group Timer Mode’ in a frame.
• One Touch MOVIE Button: Capture VGA quality movie clips at 30 frames per second with sound to capture all of those once-in-a-lifetime moments.
• Battery Life: The long-life rechargeable Li-ion battery (up to 200 shots) allows for extended use without worrying if the camera is going to last for the duration of the trip.

“With the success of the FinePix Z20fd for the Gen Y crowd, it is only a natural progression for Fujifilm to provide active, technology-savvy families with the unparalleled style and function that everyone demands in the 21st century,” said David Troy, marketing manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, FUJIFILM U.S.A., Inc. “Today’s users not only want to experience everything life has to offer, but they also want their camera to be able to experience and capture it with them.”

The FinePix Z33WP will debut in late March at a retail price of $199.95.

FUJIFILM'S 'GENERATION Z' STYLE-CAM GETS A FACELIFT

With its Striking Shape and New Scenic Technology, the Third-Generation Fine-Pix Z30 is Ideal for the On-the-Go Consumer

Valhalla, N.Y., February 17, 2009 – FUJIFILM U.S.A., Inc. today announced the launch of the FinePix Z30, the third installment of its Z-series ultra-glam cameras designed specifically for ‘Generation Z,’ the younger, tech-savvy, fashion-conscious consumer. With its new chic chassis form factor, the FinePix Z30 is even sleeker than its predecessors, the Z10 and Z20. The Z30 also includes an innovative SR Auto (Automatic Scene Recognition) feature that enables the camera to recognize subjects, scenes and faces automatically resulting in great pictures every time.

Fashion Meets Technology
Boasting a high resolution 2.7” LCD screen, this 10 Megapixel camera is available in three hot colors - pink, orange and black – and has a Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens. The FinePix Z30 is also designed for ultra-portability making this the ideal camera for the fashionista on-the-go.

Like its predecessor the Fujifilm Z20, the Fujifilm Z30 can Face it, Blog it and Roll it. Users can Face It with Fujifilm's innovative Face Detection Technology with Automatic Red Eye Removal for capturing the ultimate group shots; Blog it with the innovative Blog Mode, making it effortless for social-media-savvy users to post pictures and videos to personal profile pages, blogs and video sharing websites or simply to e-mail to friends; and Roll it with the Successive Movie mode that allows users to create 60 second movie clips.

Automatic Scene Recognition
SR Auto (Automatic Scene Recognition) enables the FinePix Z30 to intelligently recognize six types of scenes automatically. For each picture taken in this mode, the Z30 will optimize the ideal exposure, focus, white balance and ISO for the scene to ensure the best quality picture is captured with ease.

The FinePix Z30 is also packed with the following features:
• Natural Light& with Flash Mode: In this mode, the FinePix Z30 quickly shoots two images in succession -- one with and one without the flash -- saving both. This convenient function lets the user perform an on-the-spot picture comparison and decide whether the FinePix Z30fd produced the most pleasing photo with flash, or without.
• Successive Movie Mode: In-camera editing allows for the creation of a 60-second movie clip, even when shooting in two or more scenes is desired. Start and restart multiple times to build a 60-second compilation, and edit the start and end points.
• Dual Shutter Releases: One button for still capture, one for movie record, for ease of use.
• Special Scene Modes: The FinePix Z30fd has 13 scene positions including Fireworks, Beach and Snow, offering a one-touch setting for almost any situation.
• SD / SD-HC Compatible slot: A single media slot that accepts SD/SD-HC media cards.
• Battery Life: Long-life rechargeable Li-ion battery.

"Recognizing that our younger customers are always looking for sleek designs and the most updated technology, we are continuing to advance the Z-series camera line each year to meet these demands," said David Troy, marketing manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, FUJIFILM U.S.A., Inc. "This year we have given the line an attractive new look and added the new Automatic Scene Recognition to assure that our users always get the best quality photos."

The FinePix Z30 will debut in March at a retail price of $179.95.
