H4D Shooter Attracts Press in Print and Online

29/06/2010 Video Captures Popular London Fashion Shoot.

Wayne Johns, UK-based fashion beauty editorial advertising photographer has received a lot of press lately surrounding a fashion shoot he did a while back
with his H4D.

Says Johns, "The behind-the-scenes video that was filmed during the 'Birds of Summer' shoot, showing me using the new Hasselblad H4D system, has received almost as much recognition as the image story itself."

Shot at Premium Park Studios in London using some pieces from the SS/10 collection of designer Marko Mitanovski, the video has appeared in five different print and online magazines, has popped up on several fashion blogs, won ‘Shot of the Week’
on Fashion Photography Blog, in the U.S., and is drawing lots of attention on YouTube. It is also coming to Haute TV.

"I love working with people who have interesting and creative ideas and inspiration, people with new things to try out, no matter how random or bizarre they may seem," says Johns. He enjoys shooting beauty/fashion outdoors, using his H4D and mixed lighting.

"The experience has definitely fueled more creativity and filming in me. I’m already planning more exciting projects, including a new fashion story," says Johns.

Johns thanks Hasselblad UK's Chris Russell-Fish and Warren Garbutt for their efforts for the shoot. Among the other key players are hair stylist Perry Patraszewski, Oxygen Models Agata and Roksana, and stylist Claudia Behnke.

Wayne Johns’ images resist any one category, but satisfy an impressive client roster around the world. “My inspiration, enthusiasm and creative passion are fueled by my passion for life, everything it has to offer, and anything that surrounds me at a given time,” says Johns.

He has had recent exhibitions in Krakow and Warsaw, and was nominated as a finalist in the Professional Photographer of the Year, the only photographer to have three images in the finals. In addition to Hasselblad, he has produced images for Vogue, GQ, Coca Cola-Fuze, L'Oreal, Powergen, Next, Nike, Vans, Sketchers, Surf Pro, Heybrook Hi-Fi, Arnet, and many other magazines, books, and online outlets.

Future introduces new look Digital Camera magazine

Definitive guide to SLR photography promises more technique, kit and inspiration

Future, the special-interest media group, has revealed an exciting new look for Digital Camera – its flagship, award-winning photography title.

As the magazine’s first major front-to-back redesign since 2006, the updated Digital Camera reflects major changes in the market, as lower-priced SLR cameras and accessories attract less experienced photographers, whilst committed enthusiasts seek newer, more powerful kit, and spend more and more time editing their images with Photoshop.

Celebrating the art of amazing images, Digital Camera also increases its size format and improves its paper stock, which allows the magazine to showcase photography more effectively. Increasing to 164 pages every issue, the new look Digital Camera promises more technique, kit reviews and inspiration for digital SLR photographers of all levels.

Responding to reader demand, Digital Camera significantly increases its product news, preview and review coverage, with the brand-new 29 page Kit Zone section delivering the industry’s most rigorous product tests thanks to an investment in the market-leading Imatest Master testing software. This enables enthusiasts to buy new cameras, lenses and other accessories with complete confidence. Readers can also find the answers to their varied SLR queries in the new ‘PhotoAdvisor’ feature as well as receiving feedback on their imagery from the editorial team, pro photographers and the magazine’s digital community.

Accompanying the increased Photoshop image editing coverage inside the magazine, Digital Camera’s monthly cover disc has also been reinvented. Over the next ten months, the series of discs focuses on becoming a Photoshop expert, with step-by-step video content accompanying in-depth tutorials within the magazine. Starting off with a guide to the basics, the series builds into a complete reference library, explaining everything an enthusiast photographer needs to know about editing their images in Photoshop.

The new look July issue of Digital Camera comes packaged in a card wallet, and gives readers two great gifts: an in-depth 52 page expert guide to Landscape photography as well as a “Teach Yourself Photoshop” videodisc that boasts more than an hour of video tutorials. Inside the magazine, features include how readers can make cash with their camera, new section ‘Shoot!’ provides 16 pages of expert practical SLR tips, while sub-£750 DSLRs are the subject of a 14 page group test. Professionals share their top tips too, with landscape grandmasters Joe Cornish and Guy Edwardes, and Getty Images’ sports photographer Clive Mason revealing the secrets of their success.

Future is promoting the new look Digital Camera with a 16-page mini-magazine inserted into more than 300,000 magazines, including Classic Rock, Official Windows Magazine and Cycling Plus, alongside a digital sampler, available from the company’s fast-growing online photography website, (

Geoff Harris, Editor of Digital Camera, said:

“The digital SLR market is continually evolving, so the new look Digital Camera magazine brings readers more techniques, kit reviews and inspiration than ever before. Our readers love to try new things as we help them learn skills to improve their photography. The new look and wealth of new features make Digital Camera the definitive guide to SLR photography.”

Matthew Pierce, Group Publisher of Future’s Digital Creative portfolio, added:

“Our research showed that readers were confused by the photography titles on the newsstand and that they wanted a new kind of SLR magazine; one that delivered much more in-depth product testing and technique content, along with regular monthly video tutorials. We’ve had to invest to achieve this –in our team, in the market-leading Imatest SLR Testing software, and also in the title’s packaging, paper quality and pagination. We believe the result is the best possible SLR title for photographers of all skill levels.”

The new look Digital Camera goes on sale Tuesday, 29th June, with a coverprice of £4.99.

Clicks Beyond the Borders

A photographic initiative to overcome Alpine barriers and connect biodiversity.

Jun 26. 2010 11:06 by CEPIC - Taking advantage of the Biodiversity Day, on May, 22nd starts the initiative "Clicks beyond the borders" promoted by the partners of the project "ECONNECT restoring the web of life". The initiative is intended for amateur and professional photographers and aims at gathering meaningful images that express the idea of overcoming barriers in the Alpine arc.

All species need to move, migrate and wander within their habitats. Although, too often men prevent
them from moving freely: a highway or a railroad, a border or differences in legislation between countries become an obstacle that undermines the natural movement of wildlife.

The challenge for the participants is to communicate this problem: their pictures will tell stories of insurmountable barriers and of strategies devised by animals and plants, facilitated also by the aid of man, to overcome them. Participants can submit a maximum of three digital pictures, taken strictly in the Alps, by January 15th 2011, into the group created on the social network FLICKR, where people can register and upload their pictures.

A prestigious panel of experts chaired by Denis Curti, critic and director of the photographic agency Contrasto Italy, will evaluate the best 12 photos from March 15th, 2011. Denis Curti

"Using photography as a tool to communicate a so difficult subject is a great opportunity to spread to non-insiders an issue such as ecological connectivity, rarely addressed by general media but no less urgent."

The pictures will be evaluated by the experts according to criteria of adequacy as regards the theme, creativity, originality, quality and technique. The 12 chosen pictures will be shown in an exhibition to be held during the ECONNECT final conference in Berchtesgaden (Germany) in mid 2011 and will be used to create a calendar to be distributed to all the conference participants.

The best works will be awarded with:

* A weekend-stay in the pilot region of Alpi-Marittime at "La locanda del Sorriso"(
* A weekend-stay in the pilot region of Berchtesgaden-Salzburg at "Alm & Wellnesshotel Alpenhof
* A basket of typical Italian products coming from WWF Italy's protected areas
* WWF-White Star photographic book "Last and wild."

Other awards are in the course of being defined.

The organizers of the initiative are the partners of ECONNECT, a three-year project funded by the European Union, whose main goal is to create connections among Alpine countries and protected areas in order to allow species migrating. Among the 16 partners there are the University of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine of Wien, WWF Italy, the Italian Ministry of Environment, the University of Innsbruck, CIPRA International, the Task Force for Protected Areas and many others. Casio Unveils Hi-Zoom ECILIM Compact Digital Camera

Newest Addition to the EXILIM Line Features Extra-Wide Angle Lens and Easy to Use Functionality

DOVER, NJ, June 22, 2010 — Continuing its history of developing innovative cameras which balance style and technology, Casio America, Inc. and its parent company, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., today announced the release of another high-quality, intelligently designed digital camera, the EXILIM EX-H5. This latest compact shooter packs a high-powered punch as it comes equipped with an ultra-wide angle 24mm and a 10X optical zoom lens capable of taking images at 12.1 megapixels. The EX-H5’s slim design makes it a perfect camera for everyday use.

The EX-H5 represents the innovation and advancement synonymous with Casio’s EXILIM line. While providing users with simplified features and improved image quality, the EX-H5 is outfitted with a 2.7 inch LCD monitor and a CCD-shift image stabilization mechanism. The new camera provides the best in basic photography functions — beautiful imaging with reduced noise and long battery life for many hours of use.

At the heart of the new EX-H5 is Casio’s next-generation EXILIM Engine 5.0, which provides advanced digital image quality and allows the camera to perform digital noise filtering in accordance with the conditions that caused the noise to be generated. Even when shooting with high sensitivity, noise is minimized without sacrificing resolution. EXILIM Engine 5.0 offers high quality beautiful images and reduced noise in an instant.

In addition to the high-powered benefits of the EX-H5, the camera is designed with a unique Simple Operations feature. Crafted with dedicated buttons for the capturing, play back and deleting of images and video, the EX-H5 simplifies the operation of the camera for new users. Simple Operations demonstrates Casio’s dedication to developing cameras with top-notch capabilities that allow novice users to maximize their photo taking experience.

“The addition of the EX-H5 to the EXILIM line-up exhibits Casio’s dedication to providing consumers of all levels with easy-to-use, high-quality cameras,” said Toshiyuki Iguchi, senior general manager of Casio’s Digital Imaging Division at Casio America, Inc. “The EX-H5’s features allow shooters to capture an array of moments in practically any environment.”

The camera also boasts Casio’s celebrated Dynamic Photo, a Hollywood-like green-screen effect which adds animated graphics into still photos where users can create unique e-greetings to share with friends and family. Dynamic Photo gives the power to create original and artistic visuals that can be emailed, posted on social networks and even printed out at home.

The new camera will begin shipping to retail in July. The EX-H5 will have an MSRP of $199.99 and will be available in black, red and silver.

A powerful zoom, easy-to-use compact digital camera, perfect for travelers on the go.

Beautiful images with 12.1 effective megapixels

This camera’s 12.1 megapixels of high-resolution imagery can render extremely fine detail in the subject. Moreover, the advanced image processing capability provided by the EXILIM Engine 5.0 ensures that color reproduction is clear and bright, and that images have a rich tonal gradation.

Ultra-wide angle 24 mm, 10X optical zoom lens

This lens delivers all the freedom of zoom photography — from an ultra-wide angle 24 mm useful for shooting in a small room or for photographing large subjects, to a 10X optical zoom that brings distant subjects up close. The camera also has a CCD-shift image stabilization mechanism.

High Resolution HD Movies
The EX-H5 features an HD Movie function. Just press the dedicated Movie button to take beautiful movies at 1280x720 pixels.

Landscape Effect
Users can choose between the Vivid Landscape option, which vividly enhances only the most impressive colors, and the Mist Removal option, which produces clearer pictures when the atmosphere is misty.

Makeup Mode
The camera helps create beautiful pictures of people’s faces. This function ensures that faces are correctly focused and well exposed, adjusts the smoothness of skin and softens facial shadows caused by sunlight.

Dynamic Photo: Make composite images of different moving images
Casio has achieved great advancements in Dynamic Photo, a function that creates “moving photos” by cutting moving subjects from the background in images taken with continuous shooting and combining those images on a different still image. In addition to composites made with a still image background, cut-out moving images can now be pasted on other moving images. This new capability raises the power of expression of images. Thus, while increasing the “fun of creating images,” these models will also increase the “fun of sharing images” by making it easy to upload images to YouTube™ using the included software or post them to a blog.

* Photography based on CIPA standards. Calculations based on an ambient temperature of 23°C; LCD monitor on; zooming back and forward from the wide end to the telephoto end every 30 seconds; flash used once every two shots; and the power turned on and off once every ten shots.

Phocus 2.5 Draws Positive Reactions from Photographers Worldwide

21/06/2010 The results are in! Photographers around the world are praising Hasselblad's new Phocus 2.5 software for its power, performance, advanced tools, ease of use, and attractive working environment.

Without a doubt, the coolest new feature in Phocus 2.5 is the Mac version’s ability to browse, handle, adjust, and process third-party RAW images and to support most standard non-RAW formats, such as TIF, JPEG, DNG, and the like.

Both the Mac and the newly released Windows version host new breakthrough features, including a full high-quality printing function, a slideshow feature, a new sample picker allowing multiple color or grey scale readout options, the sharing or import of keywords, and enhanced preview quality.

Says Phocus product manager Lars Elmo, "Achieving a good digital workflow is crucial today. With this in mind, we listened carefully to our users when we designed Phocus and will do our outmost to ensure the software is always as intuitive and easy to use as possible. Every aspect of the Phocus interface has been developed to reflect the way that photographers prefer to work and to help ensure that they can spend as much time as possible taking images - not processing them."

To accommodate the needs of experienced photographers, young pros, and advanced amateurs, Phocus 2.5 features two starting modes - Light and Standard. If you are new to Phocus or want a simple workflow, choose Light Mode. Only basic functions are active so your initial image handling is easy and straightforward. The full tool set and all processing abilities are accessible behind the scenes. More experienced photographers will probably choose the Standard Mode, with all functions and features present and active.

Lars Elmo continues, “The Phocus user interface can be customized to different shooting scenarios, so all of your layout modes can be saved according to your preferences - and are just a shortcut away. You can even bring your preferred layouts with you on the road or share them with friends or colleagues.”

Among the scores of enthusiastic responses Hasselblad has received from photographers:
- "I have been using Phocus version 2 since I bought a H3DII-39 last October. I consider myself a photographer first and foremost. I'm not a computer geek and have always struggled to find the patience to get the best out of software. Phocus changed that completely. I find it so simple to use and it produces excellent results." —SL
- "Phocus 2.5 can easily give Lightroom and Aperture a run for their money. It supports all kinds of RAW files, including Leica DNGs, and is a hundred times easier to use than the older version." —AB
- "I installed Phocus 2.5 yesterday. No problems so far with Lumix G1 RAW and Hasselblad 3FR files. Thank you, Hasselblad." —JL
- "Tried it and love it! I'm using it to process all my other RAW files, as well. It is becoming my preferred post-production software. And it's free!" —PS

Costello Photography Introduces 6-Step Wedding Photography Process

costello photography
Award Winning Philadelphia Photography Studio implements a unique 6-step process to help streamline wedding photography services

Jenkintown, PA (PRWEB) June 16, 2010 -- When a man and women decide to tie the knot, there needs to be a certain level of serenity during the actual planning of the wedding. Too often, people hire the photographers at the last minute and wonder why their pictures don’t come out the way they expect. Or many hire “Uncle Joe” or someone that has an SLR camera, thinking they can save a few dollars. Again, this often leads to disappointment.

What Costello Photography brings to the table for their customers in the greater Philadelphia area is an ability to capture those special moments and memories in crystal clear imagery. The company’s strategy is to let their customer do the talking, while Costello formulates professional expertise. By letting their customers tell them ‘exactly what they want’, the company is in line to deliver exactly what their brides and grooms are looking for.

This is done through a unique 6-step process in which the bride and groom begin by visiting for a simple one-on-one consultation after the couple call to schedule a visit to the studio. Once the day is reserved, Costello meets with the couple again to go over the details with a fine-tooth comb. Then, the dynamic duo of John and Doris Costello do what they do best… capture memories! They attend the whole wedding from beginning to that tasty bite of cake and throughout plenty of dancing at the reception. Three weeks after the wedding, the proofs are ready and the Philadelphia bride and groom can view all of the wedding images.

Costello Photography Company brings a world of experience and a sharp eye to every wedding. In fact, the couple has been taking wedding photographs for over 28 years, and both Doris and John are a part of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America). Their accolades don’t stop there. Costello Photography was also nominated two years consecutively for ‘best studio’ by MyFox Philly and both are well known worldwide for their amazing pictures. Both John and Doris Costello hold certifications in Photographic Craftsmanship and Masters of Photography degrees from the PPA. Some of the other awards that the couple has achieved over the years include, ‘Best of the Knot’ and ‘Best Wedding Album of the Year’ awards.

If your wedding is fast approaching with details still left unreserved, consider one of Philadelphia’s best photography studios with real people behind the camera who will help to make the day flow as smooth as possible.

With so many reasons to choose Costello Photography Company, none may be more notable than the fact that they have literally photographed over 1000 weddings; and counting! All of these 28 years of service and certifications, along with Costello Photography’s unique process makes them a top-of –the line photography studio to do business with.

SizzlPix! Introduces The First New Fine Art Photography Wall Display Technology In Decades

Breakthrough New Technology in High Definition Fine Art Photography Wall Display Is Incredibly Lifelike, Vivid, and Luminous. Waterproof, Durable and Lightweight, Dye-Infused Aluminum SizzlPix! are Environmentally-Friendly, and Resist UV Fading or Scratch

( June 14, 2010 -- Los Gatos, CA June 14, 2010 --, LLC today announced High Definition Photography for display in offices, homes, and buildings. Photographers, Architects, Decorators, and Designers hailed the release.

Modern photography technology outpaces consumer expectations by continually introducing smaller, easier-to-use cameras that produce higher and higher quality images, along with software development that makes the digital darkroom accessible to more and more, even casual, practitioners on ever-more powerful computers and phones; greater choices and lower prices.

For the creator of photography, the opportunities increase exponentially. More people are taking more pictures.

For the consumer of photography, those of us who may or may not make the pictures ourselves, but who enjoy displaying fine art photography on the walls of our offices, homes, or appreciating it in public places, there have been few advances since the decline of traditional film and wet darkroom processing.

Inexpensive desktop printers and conventional printing labs and frame shops abound, but the product remains the same: paper or canvas enlargements, usually matted, framed, and under glass, expensive and vulnerable to fading and damage from moisture and sunlight, even the very air we breath. Perhaps most important, even new, they look little different from prints made 10, 20, or 50 years ago. Now, at last, along comes SizzlPix!™ High Definition Photography™, the first really new fine art photography printing technology in decades.

Advanced beyond giclee or other photographic processes, SizzlPix! are not merely printed upon the surface of paper or cloth, but are actually infused to a durable, though lightweight, aluminum base. They are waterproof and have an ultra-hard high gloss coating that is virtually scratch proof.
Wipe with just soapy water or glass cleaner. You can’t damage your SizzlPix!.

Gloss without Glare! Because there is no glass, glare and reflections are minimized while vibrancy and clarity are enhanced.

Unlike ordinary conventional matted and framed prints, SizzlPix waste no paper, glass, plastics nor wood. They’re made from aluminum, one of earth’s most commonly recycled materials, according to a US Government study.

“Printing photographs
on conventional paper, plastic, and canvas often requires dangerous solvents which evaporate, adversely affecting plant personnel and releasing noxious toxins into earth’s atmosphere. SizzlPix! manufacturing uses no such solvents. The coating is cured with UV and electron beam units, so no VOCs are released,” said Don Sherman, CEO, LLC.

Since you need neither matting nor frame, your savings could pay for your SizzlPix!. Yes, SizzlPix! High Definition Photography presents fine art for your home or office for hundreds, not thousands, of dollars!
Professionally packaged, ready to hang, with permanent simple 3-D mount already attached, SizzlPix will be securely packaged and shipped free in the US, delivered promptly to a home, your office, or gift recipient anywhere on earth.

“One has to see their own SizzlPix to appreciate their stunning detail, and life-like brilliance, so all customers may order at no risk with an unconditional money-back guarantee of satisfaction,” Sherman continued.

Derrick Story, famed professional photographer, writer, and instructor said, “SizzlPix, dye-infused aluminum: what a difference that makes! You have the reflected light from the room, like you do on an ordinary paper or canvas print, but then it’s as if the light is bouncing back through the image. They’re phenomenal, they’re durable, they’re environmentally-friendly, it’s really cool, but the bottom line is: they look fabulous! You choose an image from their online gallery, or send them one of your own; you get this thing back, and you say, ‘Wow! I’ve never seen anything like this before.’ You put it there on the wall, you just look at it; light is bouncing off it. It looks like light is emanating from within the image. It is crisp. It is clear. It has depth that you didn’t even realize was in your shot.”
